* An introduction to the 40 Developmental Assets Framework developed by the Search Institute
* How the Developmental Assets promote positive behavior and reduce risky behaviors in young people
* Build understanding of the Assets by identifying those you had as a youth
* Lay an asset-building foundation to begin using immediately in all of your interactions with youth
The Developmental Assets Framework identifies 40 positive supports and strengths that young people need to succeed. The framework focuses on specific strenghts that can be measured and built in families, schools, youth programs, faith communities and other settings in communities to provide the experiences, opportunities, an d relationships that children and adolescents need to be resilient and thrive. CNCAA's vision is "Making a Difference." ....which happens to be the title of this story -- we refer to it as the Starfish Story -- a powerful and heartwarming story that reflects the work of the Council -- I invite you to read and consider how each of us can make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and families in our communities......
"There was a young man walking down a deserted beach just before dawn. In the distance he saw a frail old man. As he approached the old man, he saw him picking up stranded starfish and throwing them back into the sea. The young man gazed in wonder as the old man again and again threw the small starfish from the sand to the water. He asked, “Old man, why do you spend so much energy doing what seems to be a waste of time?” The old man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left in the morning sun. “But there must be thousands of beaches and millions of starfish!” exclaimed the young man. “How can you make any difference?” The old man looked at the small starfish in his hand, and as he threw it to the safety of the sea he said, “It makes a difference to this one!” --Author unknown

If you are able, would you please consider a gift to Go Big Give today?? There are more than 160 great non-profit organizations participating -- CNCAA is one of them. Thank you in advance for your generosity --- and helping to make a difference!!
