To prepare for the upcoming camping season, we temporarily close the campground area each year to complete pre-season startup work safely.

Beginning Monday, April 13, vehicle access to the campground area will be closed through May 1. During this time, heavy equipment will be operating throughout the park for the annual sand relocation project, along with other routine maintenance and start-up procedures.

On May 1, the campground will reopen for registered campers only, and our large day-use parking lots will also open for the season.

Daily parking will remain available in the channel parking lot along the boardwalk throughout the closure. See attached picture.

Yesterday, Lake Michigan delivered an impressive performance.

This morning, this video of the wave action washed up in our feed — like driftwood, but funnier — so obviously we’re sharing it.

Proof that the big lake and open windows will always have very different long-term goals. 🤣

Ranger’s recommendations for wave viewing in vehicles:
✅ Park a little farther back
✅ Keep the windows up
✅ A sub “samich” isn’t actually a submarine

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Nope… it’s science!

If you’ve noticed the new equipment at the base of the pier — don’t worry, it’s not alien technology or a secret portal to the lake monsters. It’s actually new wave-measuring equipment installed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to collect information about wave activity.

So the next time you’re out for a walk and see it, you can proudly say you’ve spotted Grand Haven’s newest superhero of science and technology!

Our park rangers have removed the swim buoys for the season. We know there are still some beautiful days ahead, but due to operational needs, it's time to wrap things up for now.

With the buoys out, we'll also be pausing our daily water condition and temperature updates until next season.

The beach parking lots and campground will remain open daily through October 21.

Thanks for a great season, and we look forward to seeing you back next summer!

💨🏕️ The Grand Haven Campsite Backing Challenge: hard.

Today’s obstacle course: tractors, skid steers, sweepers, and blowers. → expert mode unlocked. 😅

With overnight winds gusting near 40 mph and steady 30+ mph winds this morning, it turned into the Sand Blizzard of ’25.

⚠️ Campground Update – High Winds ⚠️

Overnight and continued high winds have pushed a significant amount of sand into the campground. Our staff is hard at work clearing the sites, but we need a little extra time today.

👉 If you have a reservation and are planning to arrive today, please do not arrive before 3:00 p.m. If you’re able to delay your arrival even by an hour or so beyond that, it will give our crew more time and space to finish the cleanup.

📩 Our reservation center is currently reaching out to guests with incoming reservations to share this same information.

UPDATE: 10:00 AM - Entrance has re-opened there is drifted sand throughout the park.

NOTICE: 9:13 AM our day use entrance is temporarily closed while staff clear sand and stuck vehicles off the entrance road. Check back here for updates. We will resume normal operations as soon as possible.
