Affiliated with the Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Ferrysburg Chamber of Commerce, LC is a leadership development program held annually to build leadership skills while raising community awareness for each participant.

The Chambers class of 2024 leadership Connect class kicked off this year's program in Walhalla at Barothy Lodge.

This is where the journey started, with local leaders coming together to better build their leadership skills, and create relationships with others they may not have met otherwise.

Together, they begin a new chapter building their careers.

Calling All Leaders📢

Leadership Connect is a 9-month program that will provide you with a solid understanding of your own leadership style and the leadership styles of others. It will also raise your awareness and understanding of the issues that will have the greatest impact on our community in the future.

Leadership Connect gives you a “Back Door View” of Northwest Ottawa County. Have you ever wondered what it's like to be in the shoes of various leaders in Northwest Ottawa County? It often feels as if these perspectives are inaccessible and we are barred from entry. Leadership Connect lets you in through the back door so you can experience it for yourself firsthand.

We at the Chamber believe that developing these skills among our leaders is vitally important, regardless of the industry or sector in which they are employed. We also believe that people like you have the potential to drive the direction of the community in the years ahead.

Yesterday was Judicial Day for the Leadership Connect class of 2022👨‍⚖️👩‍✈️

The class learned more about our systems of law from Sheriff Steve Kempker, practiced safe firearm operation at the firing range, and even had the opportunity to participate in a ride along with law enforcement officers🚓

Leadership Connect is visiting Central High School for Education Day!📚🍎

After a presentation from Principal Kevin Berko and Assistant Superintendent of GHAPS Jason Reinecke, the Leadership Connect class competed in a STEM activity to build the tallest freestanding tower made only out of foil!

Earlier this month, the Midwest Miniatures Museum celebrated its one-year anniversary at its Grand Haven location.

Leadership Connect was on-site for Economy Day, taking an Economic Tour of Northwest Ottawa County visiting Hortech, Tanglefoot Park, Verplank Trucking, and Robbins Landing!

A lot was learned from Paul Sachs from Ottawa County, who shared about the Ottawa County Water Shortage, as he informed our members that most of Ottawa County's groundwater is 9 times saltier than the ocean!

Becky Huttenga educated us on agriculture, and informed members that Ottawa County produces 70% of Michigan's Turkeys and is first in crop production largely due to nursery stock.

A great lunch was provided by Marco's in Spring Lake, with Rose Dunlap (Operations Director, Executive Committee Member, and Leadership Connect Alumna) having joined us to share about Gracious Grounds and their mission to create a more accessible and inclusive community.

Members also had the opportunity to ask questions to the Governmental Panel, which represented all five municipalities in Northwest Ottawa County.
