Regarding cold weather survival, we teach 1:10:1. If you enter the water through the ice, you need to get your breathing under control within 1 minute. You’ll have approximately 10 minutes of meaningful movement and approximately 1 hour of consciousness.

is greatly enhanced by wearing a brightly colored, inherently buoyant, properly fitting, U.S. Coast Guard approved, floatation device.

We also recommend leaving a “float plan” with someone on shore, who can call for help if you do not return on time.

A personal locator beacon and a submersible VHF-FM marine radio are also highly recommended
