Fire departments dont have coworkers, they have family. Tonight, we came together just as that, one big family. A pot luck style dinner with jokes, laughs and stories. Afterwards, there was an award ceremony where everyones hard work, dedication and selflessness were honored. Congratulations to our Lieutenant K. Bishop for making firefighter of the year. Bishop has shown excellent dedication into the department and community and has gone above and beyond as most of the family does. As we quickly approach the holiday festivities this weekend, we hope everyone has an amazing and safe holiday. Your volunteers will still be available and ready to respond to any emergency that may arise.

We hope everyone has a fantastic Thanksgiving and safe holiday. Everyone loves a good fried turkey, but there are a lot of potential hazards when cooking with hot oil. Please be sure to use all fryers outdoors and away from any flammable objects, keep small children and pets away from the cooking area and always have an approved fire extinguisher close by. We would like to extend a special thank you to our local Greers Market for the donation of turkeys and cooking oil for this demonstration on what happens when a turkey not thawed completely is placed inside hot oil. Your volunteers will be standing by for any emergencies that may arise.

BURN BAN HAS BEEN LIFTED for Southern portion of Alabama. However, we are under a "Fire Alert", meaning to be mindful that fire can still potentially spread. With having the recent rainfall last week and also tonight, this does help significantly. As always, please stay safe and be aware.
On another note: We have had an increase in calls/messages for assistance with burning. I will work to return phone calls and messages received. Happy Thanksgiving to you all, and please enjoy the remainder of your week.

AFC Makes Changes to ‘No Burn’ Order

With rainfall amounts varying across the state this week, the Alabama Forestry Commission is lifting the No Burn order in 33 counties in the southern half of the state. Effective at 5:00 p.m. on November 17, these counties will drop back to a Fire Alert. In those counties, burn permits will be issued to certified prescribed burn managers only. This new lesser restriction includes all counties south of and including Sumter, Greene, Hale, Perry, Dallas Autauga, Elmore, Macon, and Lee. The 34 counties in the northern half of the state remain under the No Burn order issued by Governor Ivey on November 9.
According to State Forester Rick Oates, agency personnel have been assessing rain accumulation and fuel moisture content in all counties to re-evaluate the No Burn order. “The recent rainfall should temporarily help us with the wildfire situation in some counties and hopefully more rain is on the way,” stated Oates. “Unfortunately, the northern counties did not receive enough precipitation to lift the No Burn order. Predicted rain for early next week may allow the situation to be re-assessed.”
Since October 1, AFC wildland firefighters, with the assistance of volunteer fire departments, have battled 727 wildfires consuming more than 7,770 acres across the state. With the No Burn order in place over the last nine days, 53 wildfires have burned approximately 200 acres of land in Alabama.
