With the upcoming weather forecast this weekend, I would like to encourage everyone to take a moment to prepare. As with any winter storm with predicted ice, there is a potential for the loss of power. As we experienced with winter storm Uri in 2021, some of those outages could be extended.
A few suggestions. Ensure your vehicle is full of fuel. In extreme emergencies, you can use your vehicle for warmth and charging your cell phone. If you do use your vehicle for warmth, do not sit in a closed garage with the vehicle running. If you have an all electric vehicle, remember that recharging will not be available until power is restored. If you have a fireplace in your home, have firewood on hand. In the event of extended power outages, water pipes may freeze. It is a good idea to identify and mark where your water disconnect is located. If the ground is covered in ice or snow, these could be difficult to locate.
The Hood County Emergency Management page also has additional information and locations of emergency warming centers.
Please stay safe and warm
