Drivers have noticed significant traffic backups this week at the traffic signal on U.S. 377 at Old Acton Highway.

City of Granbury staff and the Granbury Police Department have been in contact with TxDOT regarding the issue. According to TxDOT, new signals were recently installed and activated, but the radar vehicle-detection equipment has not yet been installed. As a result, the signal is currently operating on a temporary timing system that is not responding to actual traffic conditions.

The timing of the left-turn movement onto Old Acton Highway is creating longer delays for through traffic on U.S. 377, especially during busy periods.

After hearing concerns from the City, TxDOT contacted its district office and contractor to address the problem. The City of Granbury has been informed that the contractor will need to return to install the radar equipment, and TxDOT is working to have the correction completed as quickly as possible. At this time, the work is expected to take place during the week of June 15.

The City understands the delays have been frustrating, particularly with increased traffic expected this weekend, and we appreciate everyone's patience while the necessary adjustments are made. The City will continue working with TxDOT and will share updates as they become available.

As summer temperatures arrive and Granbury City Beach welcomes visitors with 150 tons of fresh new sand, many residents have asked about water quality and swimming conditions in Lake Granbury.

The City of Granbury asked the Brazos River Authority (BRA), which manages Lake Granbury, Is the water in Lake Granbury safe for swimming? According to the BRA, the water in the main body of the lake meets standards for contact recreation. However, no surface water is entirely risk-free, as all natural waters contain bacteria that can be hazardous depending on exposure levels and an individual's health. The BRA also notes that some areas, such as canals and coves, are known to contain elevated levels of bacteria.

Residents can learn more about waterborne illnesses at:
https://brazos.org/about-us/reservoirs/lake-safety/waterborne-illnesses

The BRA also provides current and historical water-quality monitoring data through its Texas Clean Rivers Program:
https://brazos.org/about-us/environmental/texas-clean-rivers-program

The site includes current and archived readings from monitoring stations along the Brazos River, including Lake Granbury.

If you have additional questions about Lake Granbury, contact the Brazos River Authority at 1-888-922-6272 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Created by the Texas Legislature in 1929 specifically for the purpose of developing and managing the water resources of an entire river basin, the Brazos River Authority develops and distributes water supplies, provides water and wastewater treatment, monitors water quality, and pursues water conser...

On June 10, Governor Greg Abbott directed Texas regulators to protect residential ratepayers from the costs associated with data center development and called for additional safeguards related to water use, electric infrastructure, noise, and neighborhood impacts.

The Governor's directives include requiring data centers to pay for the electric infrastructure needed to serve their operations, reducing the risk of those costs being passed on to residential customers. He also called for water-efficient cooling technologies, reporting of electricity and water use, and measures to reduce impacts on nearby communities.

Most of these issues were already addressed by the Granbury City Council in April 2026 through Ordinance 26-14, which established standards for data centers and power-generation facilities. Those requirements include noise mitigation, extensive landscaping and visual buffers, water-conservation measures, annual third-party inspections, lighting controls, construction management plans, and emergency-response coordination.

The ordinance was adopted in April following public discussion and reflects many of the same concerns now being addressed at the state level.

Wednesday 8 a.m.: Granbury's City Beach is open! The additional sand is in place and the timing couldn't be better!

Thanks to the hard work of the City of Granbury Parks & Recreation team, the Water Department and the Streets Department, the sand delivery project at Granbury City Beach was completed ahead of schedule. More than 150 tons of fresh sand have been added to enhance the beach experience for residents and visitors.

Wednesday's forecast calls for mostly sunny skies, temperatures reaching the mid-90s, and a nice south breeze. It will feel even hotter, with heat index values above 100 degrees, making it a perfect day to enjoy the beach. Don't forget the essentials: apply sunscreen often, drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade when needed, and keep an eye on children, especially near the water.

UPDATE: Wednesday, 8 a.m. The beach is now fully open. Work was completed ahead of schedule thanks to the hard-working City of Granbury Parks & Recreation staff, who added more than 150 tons of fresh sand to enhance the beach experience for residents and visitors.

ORIGINAL POST: To enhance the beach experience for residents and visitors, Granbury City Beach will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday (June 9-10) while crews add more than 150 tons of fresh sand to the beach. The closure allows heavy equipment to operate safely and to ensure the new sand can be properly placed.
If the work is completed earlier than expected, the beach may reopen before Thursday morning.
Thank you for your patience as we make these improvements to help keep City Beach safe, attractive, and enjoyable for everyone.
