🚨 With the recent detection of New World screwworm in a 3-week-old bovine in Zavala County, TX, USDA urges residents to contact your veterinarian right away if you see any suspicious wounds, maggots, or infestations in your animals or herd.

If you see signs of maggot infestations in live or very recently dead wild animals, especially in areas near the U.S./Mexico border, please call 866-4USDA-WS (866-487-3297) to report it to your local USDA Wildlife Services office.

Safety doesn’t happen all at once—it happens step by step. 🚙

Child passenger safety is a journey that changes as a child grows. The safest path includes riding rear-facing as long as possible, transitioning to a forward-facing seat, then using a booster seat for proper belt fit, and eventually graduating to an adult seat belt.

Each stage helps protect growing bodies and reduces the risk of serious injury in a crash. Whether the drive is long or short, choosing the right restraint for a child’s size and age helps ensure every trip is a safer one. Safety is a road trip, not a quick trip.

Safe kids are smart cookies!

Whether you’re heading across town or starting a longer trip, remember that every ride begins with buckling up correctly. Children should ride in the right car seat for their age, size, and developmental stage, with the harness snug and properly positioned.

Snacks and treats may help keep little riders happy, but safety should always come first. Secure your child before the trip starts, and keep distractions to a minimum while driving.

A smart cookie rides buckled every time.
