🌿 Welcome to The Pretty Girl Pond 🌿
They say a true sanctuary isn't just built; it's accepted by nature.
When I dug this 3,500-gallon basin, I wanted to create a safe haven for the vulnerable. Today, as I stand by the edge, the air carries that crisp, clean, earthy scent like the Eno River—the ultimate proof of a perfectly balanced, living ecosystem.
I wrote a little poem tonight watching the evening light fade over the water, and I wanted to share a piece of the magic happening here at Bilahuk Family Farm:

(The Pretty Girl Pond)
Deep in the center, where the water runs cool,
Lies a thriving, self-governing, miniature rule.
Where the Ram's horn snails dance on the shallow rock walls,
And the oxygen crashes where the waterfall falls.
Beneath the clear ripples, a bright golden gleam,
As Dragon Scale Koi chase a calico dream.
The Self-fin Platies are breeding, the fry swim in peace,
While the song of the wild frogs and newts never cease.
And floating right there in the heart of it all,
Is a beautiful resident, resilient and tall.
A survivor of roads, of a fracture and pain,
Who found a new life where the gentle hearts reign.
With colors that linger from days she was small,
"Pretty Girl" paddles, the queen of it all.
Hand-fed with patience, no struggle or strife,
In a river-born haven made purely for life.
Two little Call Ducks float high like a cork,
As the cleanup crew crayfish do the underwater crawl.
No roaring, no shouting, just a soft, steady hum—
A paradise built in this beautiful room.
We can't wait to hang her official plaque soon. Until then, we are just soaking in the peace and quiet of this incredible ecosystem. 💚🐢🌾
