FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
HOLIDAY SEASON PACKAGE PROGRAM
Grafton, WI – October 31, 2025 – With the holiday shopping season upon us, package theft
remains a significant concern for residents nationwide. As many as 58 million Americans have
become victims of package theft in the last 12 months, with porch pirates stealing approximately
$12 billion in packages. More recent data suggests package theft incidents have declined slightly
to just over 104 million in 2024–2025, down from 120 million in 2023, though losses still total
approximately $37 billion.
Nationally, four percent of adults had a package stolen within the last three months. In
Wisconsin specifically, four percent of residents—or one out of every 25 people—experience
package theft every three months, with approximately 238,440 people having at least one
package stolen over a three-month period in 2024. For Wisconsin residents who have packages
delivered, there's a 4.9 percent likelihood it will be stolen, with the median value of stolen
packages at $45.
Eighty-seven percent of online shoppers are concerned about having a package stolen around the
holiday season, with 28 percent expressing they are "very" or "extremely" worried. During the
busiest shopping times of the year, 70 percent of Americans expect porch pirates to strike more
after the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. These concerns are justified—one-half of those
who've experienced package theft have had a gift intended for someone else stolen.
What does all this mean? It means that you are not immune to package theft in Grafton and
surrounding areas! We want you to shop with confidence and be free of the worry that your
packages will be stolen this holiday season.
Beginning November 1, 2025, and running through January 1, 2026, any Village of Grafton
or Town of Grafton resident can have all your online orders shipped to the Grafton Police
Department. You read that correctly; WE WILL ACCEPT AND HOLD YOUR
PACKAGES FOR YOU. We want to help you and your family have a worry-free holiday
season.
Here's how it works:
1. When placing your orders online, use the Grafton Police Department's address for
delivery: 1981 Washington Street Grafton, Wisconsin 53024
2. Be sure your name is on the package as it appears on your ID.
3. We will be available for you to pick up your items between 8 am and 9 pm every day.
4. We ask that packages be picked up within three to five days from the date of delivery so we can accommodate the number of packages we expect to receive.
5. Upon pick up, please have your ID and tracking paperwork with you. We don't want to release your package to someone else accidentally.
6. The program is free; however, we ask those who participate to bring a canned food item or unwrapped toy to help those who may be in need this holiday season. We have partnered with the Family Food Pantry of Ozaukee County and Kapco's Kids2Kids Christmas and will be providing the donations we receive to those worthy causes.
We hope that this program is helpful and keeps your spirits bright this holiday!
