I'm deeply sorry that I'm delayed in expressing my thanks to everyone that was involved in with the Graceville Friends of the Library Walking Taco fundraiser on Friday, May 1st.
I would like to start by thanking our Friends for their continued dedication to the library and for all their hard work in making the fundraiser a success. Without them, the library would struggle. So again, thank you to the Friends! I would also like to say a big thank you to the Big Stone ADA for their donation toward ice cream and cheese, and to Thrivent for donating $250 for other food and supplies. Additionally, thank you to Ag County for donating plates, cups, and silverware, and to Christy Puetz for donating her time and supplies to make crafts with the kids. Thank you to all that attended. We hope you enjoyed the meal and the evening. I'm also excited to announce that there are new members that joined the Friends of the Library that evening. Welcome! We are so very happy you've joined an important group dedicated to supporting and advocating for your library.

It's back and ready to be checked out!
Graceville has so much to offer for a small town including the Toqua Park Disc Golf Course. Understandably, not everyone has access to the proper discs that are required to play frisbee golf, also known as 'frolfing', or do not want to invest in purchasing the varying disc's to play the game. We'd like everyone to experience the fun of frisbee golf! As long as you have a library card with us, you may check out the frisbee golf kit for two weeks. Included in the kit is 2 drivers, 2 mid-drivers, 2 putters, informational sheet on frisbee use (w/website), and a helpful guide sheet on the 6 forehand frisbee grips. Time to get out, have some fun and get some exercise!

Looking for help to move some dirt at the library. We have 3rd and 4th graders coming for gardening field trips next week and could use a hand filling up 4 raised beds.

AN INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER

One of America’s leading educators explains what children need to thrive and excel.

In The Well-Educated Child, Dr. Deborah Kenny offers an inspiring vision for education that cultivates intelligent, happy, morally grounded young people. This landmark book will change the way we think about what it means for our children to be well educated.

Drawing on decades of experience with students from preschool through high school, Kenny presents education as soul craft. She reveals how to teach children the skills of self-management and the virtue of self-discipline, and what students must learn to become intellectually curious, knowledgeable, gracious, and motivated.

With wit, wisdom, and warmth, Kenny describes how young people can become serious thinkers and avid readers who appreciate beauty, concentrate for long periods of time on challenging work, and lead meaningful lives. She takes us inside classrooms to understand the importance of deeper learning based on three concepts: quality thinking, ethical purpose, and a sense of agency. Her ideas are both practical and deeply philosophical. At a moment when parents and teachers are concerned about digital distraction and declining engagement, The Well-Educated Child is a masterful exposition of what we need to know about what education should be.

*INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER*

In this new novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The House of Eve, one American woman’s vision in post WWII Germany will tie together three people in unexpected and soul-stirring ways.

Ethel Gathers, the proud wife of an American Officer, is living in Occupied Germany in the 1950s. After discovering a local orphanage filled with the abandoned mixed-race children of German women and Black American GI’s, Ethel feels compelled to help find these children homes.

Philadelphia born Ozzie Phillips volunteers for the recently desegregated army in 1948, eager to make his mark in the world. While serving in Manheim, Germany, he meets a local woman, Jelka, and the two embark on a relationship that will impact their lives forever.

In 1965 Maryland, Sophia Clark is given an opportunity to attend a prestigious all white boarding school and escape her heartless parents. While at the school, she discovers a secret that upends her world and sends her on a quest to unravel her own identity.

Toggling between the lives of these three individuals, Keeper of Lost Children explores how one woman’s vision will change the course of countless lives, and demonstrates that love in its myriad of forms—familial, parental, and forbidden, even love of self—can be transcendent.
