Chef Crystal was busy this month! With the help of our Katie's Kitchen volunteers, 3,491 meals were prepared in May for our neighbors. 🥗👐

This number includes meals served in-house and Meals on Wheels meals!

In honor of we wanted to share some of our local food insecurity statistics with you.

A new report from the Indiana Youth Institute shows that while child poverty has declined in parts of northern Indiana, more children are still going hungry. Statewide, the share of kids without consistent access to nutritious food rose from 12.9% to 18.2%, affecting about 285,000 children. In St. Joseph County, food insecurity climbed to 20.2%, and in Elkhart County it rose to 16.9%.

These numbers are a reminder that many local families still need strong community support to keep food on the table.

Did you know we have shelves in our hallway between the pantry and kitchen that we fill with overstock food items? All of the items on the shelf need to be used soon, so first come first served! 🍞 🥖 🍎 👐🏻

This Saturday .church hosted a free clothing sale for The Window’s Clothing Closet. We were able to give away 50+ boxes of clothing to community members. If you know of any individuals in need of clothing send them our way! 👖 👚 🧥

Serving others with love, one meal at a time. This month our chefs prepared meals for 3,247 of our neighbors. Thankful for Chef Crystal and the helpful hands of volunteers that prepare these meals. 🍴👐

More info on Stamp Out Hunger! 🍎🥬🥗

This Saturday, May 9, communities across the country will come together for Stamp Out Hunger.

Right here in Elkhart County, many of the Hunger Ends Here partner organizations will be taking part and receiving donations collected through this nationwide food drive. Middlebury Food Pantry The Window, Inc. Church Community Services Faith Mission of Michiana The Salvation Army - Goshen, IN The Salvation Army - Elkhart, IN and many more!

It’s easy to participate:
Check your mailbox for the Stamp Out Hunger bag or simply place non-perishable food donations in a bag near your mailbox before your mail is delivered on Saturday. Your letter carrier will pick it up, and those donations will go directly to local food pantries helping families in our community.

What makes this so special is that while this happens across the entire country, the food donated here stays here to help neighbors right here in Elkhart County.
