On Saturday, June 20, 2026, officers responded to the 4500 block of Elkhart Rd. to reports of a large gathering of vehicles and complaints of reckless driving . As officers responded to the scene and attempted to make contact with those involved, one officer was struck in the hand by a passing vehicle’s side mirror. The officer was evaluated by medics at the scene and sustained a minor injury that did not require further medical treatment.

The vehicle involved, a red Dodge Charger, has been identified, and the investigation remains active.

Several of the vehicles involved appear to match those seen in video footage related to the US 20 Bypass incident.

⚠️ Weather Preparedness Reminder

The US National Weather Service Northern Indiana is forecasting the potential for severe weather across the Goshen area on Wednesday night. Heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding and flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather forecasts closely, stay alert for changing conditions, and follow all watches and warnings. If you experience an emergency, call 9-1-1 immediately.

City crews continue to address limb and tree debris from last week's storms. To assist with cleanup efforts, residents are asked to move brush debris to the curb. The Goshen Street Department will conduct additional brush pickups throughout the city from Monday, June 22, through Thursday, July 2, as needed.

Sand and sandbags are available after hours outside the Goshen Street Department, 475 Steury Ave., for residents who anticipate needing them. Sandbags are also available during regular Street Department hours, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please join us in welcoming Chief Andy Stephenson as the 23rd Chief of Police for the Goshen Police Department.

Chief Stephenson officially took the oath of office on June 11, 2026, during a ceremony attended by family, friends, community members, city leaders, and public safety personnel.

Chief Stephenson joined the City of Goshen on May 1 and spent several weeks working alongside retiring Chief José Miller ahead of the leadership transition. He brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience and a strong commitment to professional policing, officer development, and community engagement.

As he begins his service to the Goshen community, we look forward to working alongside him and continuing the department's longstanding tradition of service, integrity, and partnership with those we are honored to serve.

UPDATE: On June 16, 2026, Goshen Police were informed the female victim of Saturday's train and automobile collision, Yuliya Miroshnichenko, has died. Her death occurred the afternoon of June 15, 2026, from trauma related injuries sustained in the collision. Miroshnichenko was pregnant at the time of the incident. Attempts to save the unborn child immediately following the collision were unsuccessful.

Yevgeniy Miroshnichenko and the couple's two children were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and have been released from the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation by the Goshen Police Department.

On Saturday, June 13, at 5:22 p.m., Goshen Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the North Main Street train crossing after receiving reports of a train colliding with a vehicle. Officers arrived and located a SUV on the south side of the train tracks that had been struck by the train. Four occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries. An adult female, 44, was airlifted to a regional hospital. An adult male, 39, and two children, ages five and six, were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing. There are no further details at this time.

9:54pm - Update: the crossings are now open.

🚨 Traffic Alert 🚨

Goshen Police officers are currently working a vehicle vs. train accident at the Main Street railroad crossing.

At this time, the Main Street crossing is closed to traffic. The Beaver Lane crossing is also blocked.

Please avoid the area and use alternate routes until the scene is cleared. We appreciate your patience as emergency personnel work safely and efficiently.

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE ALERT 🚧

Kercher Rd. is currently closed between Messick Dr. and County Road 27.

The culprit appears to be either a tree, a utility pole, or a tree and a utility pole that decided to become close friends overnight. Either way, the roadway is blocked and crews are working to address the situation.

Please avoid the area and use an alternate route until the road can safely reopen.
