A large, natural wet slab avalanche occurred in Dodge’s Drop on Thursday sometime during the most recent warm up and rain. No one was caught in this avalanche.

As we move further into spring, this likely won’t be the last wet slab this year. Don’t forget to check the forecast before heading into the backcountry. Links to our forecast and website are available in our bio.

Dangerous conditions exist this weekend for long, fast, uncontrollable falls in steep terrain. Spring has yet to come to the Presidential Range.

If you choose to ski in steep avalanche terrain today, take time to understand the consequences of even a small mistake. Ice axe, crampons, and helmet are the bare minimum for safely traveling in these conditions.

Springtime hazards are showing themselves in the Presidential Range. The snowpack is adjusting to incredibly warm temperatures. Be sure to read the up to date forecast before you head out.
