The Goreville Fire Department is proud to announce the award of two grants during the month of May totaling $36,000 in funding to support firefighter safety, emergency response capabilities, and community protection efforts.

The department was awarded the 2026 IDNR Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant in the amount of $10,000. These funds will be used to purchase:
• 3 new sets of structural firefighting gear
• 3 sets of wildland firefighting gear
• Materials to establish a new 6” dry hydrant

The department also received the 2026 Illinois OSFM Small Equipment Grant in the amount of $26,000. This funding will provide essential equipment including:
• 2 Thermal Imaging Cameras
• 2 Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)
• 2 Portable Generators
• 1 K12 Rescue Saw
• 1 Sawzall
• 10 personal helmet flashlights
• 10 personal coat flashlights
• 4 vehicle flashlights

These grants are critical for smaller departments like Goreville Fire Department, allowing us to obtain the equipment and resources necessary to safely and efficiently respond to fire, rescue, and medical emergencies.

We would like to thank the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal for their continued support of fire departments across Illinois.

Shout out to Crane Grantworx for assisting with multiple successful grants.

🚒🛠️ Huge shoutout and THANK YOU to Vernells, Brittons, and Goddards Towing for their incredible support of the Goreville Fire Department!

These local businesses donated wrecked vehicles for our auto extrication training, giving firefighters the opportunity to practice real-world rescue scenarios and sharpen lifesaving skills. 🚗✂️🔥

Training like this is absolutely critical because when serious accidents happen, every second counts. Your support helps ensure our firefighters are better prepared to safely and quickly rescue victims in emergency situations.

We truly appreciate businesses that step up and invest in the safety of our community. 👏🇺🇸 Thank you for supporting your local first responders and helping us continue to serve the people of Goreville and surrounding areas! 🚨🚑💪

A Slight Risk of severe storms extends from the Missouri Bootheel through much of west Kentucky Tuesday afternoon and evening. A Marginal Risk is in place farther to the northwest. Large hail and damaging winds are the main concerns.

04/26/2026

A major outbreak of severe storms is possible late Monday afternoon and Monday evening. Strong tornadoes and widespread damaging winds will be the primary concerns, but large hail will be possible over portions of southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.

Severe Weather Event:

In addition to the well advertised Monday severe event (which continues to look quite concerning), there is an increasing signal for additional severe storms on Tuesday afternoon and evening. We are currently not outlooked by SPC, but recent model guidance has shifted further north with the boundary left behind by Monday's system, which then combines with another disturbance moving in from the west to ignite more storms in a potentially very unstable airmass. The northward trend is concerning enough to warrant this email to get everyone started thinking about the possibility of severe storms on back to back days. Maybe it'll indeed stay more south of our area in Arkansas/Tennessee, or just barely clip our southern counties, but it's best to be prepared only in case it does impact most of our region with a second round.

The potential for an outbreak of severe storms across the Quad State late Monday afternoon and Monday evening continues.
