Portrait of a Graduate: Recognizing Students Who Exemplify Responsibility!

This month, we celebrate Desert Edge’s very own Juan Z.! Congratulations to Juan Z., Grade 12, who was nominated by Ms. Vanderheyden from the History Department for exemplifying Responsibility, one of our Portrait of a Graduate tenants.

Juan takes responsibility seriously—demonstrating accountability, ownership of their actions, and a commitment to making positive contributions.

Ms. Vanderheyden notes that Juan demonstrates exceptional responsibility by consistently taking ownership of his academics, commitments, and future goals. As a senior preparing to apply to highly competitive universities, he approaches his work with maturity, organization, and determination, showing that he is prepared to take on the challenges and opportunities ahead. He did summer coursework and attended a summer session at Washington University in St. Louis to help prepare him for his Senior year and beyond!

Portrait of a Graduate: Recognizing Students Who Exemplify integrity!

This month, we celebrate Desert Edge’s very own Nicholas R.! Congratulations to Nicholas R., Grade 11, who was nominated by Mrs. Cole from the History Department for exemplifying Integrity, one of our Portrait of a Graduate tenants.

Nicholas demonstrates integrity by consistently choosing what’s right over what’s easy and making ethical decisions in all situations.

Mrs. Cole shared that Nicholas was mistakenly placed into the wrong history class when he came to Desert Edge. When told that he needed a schedule change, Nicholas requested to stay in Mrs. Cole’s class one last day in order to finish a project with his partner. He did not want to leave his partner hanging, showing great integrity!

This month, we celebrate Desert Edge’s very own Prince N.!

Congratulations to Prince N., Grade 10, who was nominated by Mr. Sablan from the Science Department for exemplifying Critical Thinking, one of our Portrait of a Graduate tenants.

Prince exemplifies critical thinking by staying open-minded, respecting evidence-based reasoning, and seeking out diverse perspectives.

Mr. Sablan notes that Prince is always on-task and completes his work at a high level. He contributes greatly to classroom discussions and is always welcoming to others.

This month, we celebrate Desert Edge’s very own Julianna M.!

Congratulations to Julianna M., Grade 9, who was nominated by Mrs. Majewski from the PE Department for exemplifying Communication, one of our Portrait of a Graduate tenants.

Julianna excels in communication by engaging with others thoughtfully and sharing clear, purposeful messages suited to any situation.

Mrs. Majewski shared that Julianna showed exceptional leadership and communication by going out of her way to make a new classmate feel at home. She invited her to join her team and proactively introduced her to others in the class.

Portrait of a Graduate: Recognizing Students Who Exemplify Collaboration!

This month, we celebrate Desert Edge’s very own Brextyn S.!

Congratulations to Brextyn S., Grade 11, who was nominated by Mr. Goodloe, for exemplifying Collaboration, one of our Portrait of a Graduate tenants.
Brextyn exemplifies Collaboration by working closely with peers and staff to achieve shared goals and support others in their learning journey.

Mr. Goodloe shared that Brex is being nominated because he consistently volunteers his time to support our football program by helping provide water for the team, while also maintaining A/B grades in the classroom. His ability to balance his academics with his commitment to helping others demonstrates collaboration, dependability, and pride in his school community.
