NEW (8:30pm) - This is slightly unanticipated this evening. I hope I’m wrong, but it appears that a very pronounced band of heavy rain and thunderstorms are developing along an axis in parts of southeast Texas. I wouldn’t be surprised if these thunderstorms roll for the next several hours, powered by the forcing of Edouard, the excess Gulf tropical moisture, and “spin” in the atmosphere.

Heavy rainfall, active lightning, and some rotation will be the main threats.

Central San Jacinto County in southeastern Texas...
Southeastern Polk County in southeastern Texas...

Until 530 PM CDT.

At 441 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Coldspring,
or 12 miles southwest of Livingston, moving east at 45 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Locations impacted include...
Livingston, Shepherd, Coldspring, Goodrich, Lake Livingston State
Park, Alabama-Coushatta Reservation, southern West Livingston, and Segno.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly
from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the
basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Polk County Tropical Storm Edouard Update
According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Edouard moved into the Piney Woods region overnight bringing gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding. We are expecting another round of severe weather with an additional 2 to 6 inches of rainfall with isolated higher amounts of 10 to 12 inches possible for our area.

There is currently a Flood Warning in effect for Long King Creek near Livingston, Menard Creek near Rye, and the Neches River near Diboll affecting Trinity, Angelina, and Polk Counties. A Flood Advisory is in effect for central Polk County.

Dunbar Gym located at 1103 Dunbar Avenue in Livingston is open and serving as a shelter for Polk County residents affected by Tropical Storm Edouard. The shelter is operated by the American Red Cross.

While water may have receded from many roadways across the county, Polk County residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel this evening as additional severe weather is expected. If you must travel, proceed with extreme caution and do not drive on flooded roads. Remember turn around, don't drown.

After last night, the area received approximately 2 “ of rainfall, and current conditions at the lake are normal and being monitored.

At this time, there are no impacts to the dam or water flows as inflows resulting from precipitation are helping bring elevation back to normal lake elevation.

Our team continues to monitor lake levels, water flows, and conditions at the dam and will take appropriate action if conditions change.
