Do you know someone in the H**p Industry that lost their job due to the ban?

Labor Day is a day to recognize the workers, families, and small businesses that keep our communities and our economy moving.

And this year in Tennessee, that message hits a little differently.

For years, Tennessee’s h**p industry created jobs—from farmers and manufacturers to retailers, distributors, and countless small businesses that invested in this state. With Tennessee’s ban on h**p flower, many of those jobs and businesses have been put at risk or lost altogether.

Meanwhile, the legal cannabis industry supports hundreds of thousands of jobs across the United States.

Cannabis policy is also jobs policy.

Sensible reform isn’t only about Legalization. It’s about protecting Tennessee workers, supporting small businesses, keeping economic opportunity in our state, and building a regulated industry that Tennesseans can be proud of.

FBI: 60 Percent of All Ma*****na Arrests Nationwide Occurred in These Ten States

Nobody is surprised Tennessee made the FBI’s top ten list for ma*****na arrests. We did drop from #2 to #5, but let's be real—that’s not an accomplishment worth celebrating.

The takeaways here tell the whole story:

* Legal THCa successfully reduced arrests and created a regulated market.
* Because the system couldn't enforce it effectively, the knee-jerk reaction is to ban it entirely simply because field tests can't tell the difference.
* Add in the fact that the state is losing revenue from arrests, and suddenly a ban looks like a convenient "win-win" for them.

It’s time to legalize. Let's keep our tax dollars in-state, reduce unnecessary arrests, and choose a community-driven, positive approach instead of profit punishment. Prohibition isn't about public safety; it's about control and keeping the cash flowing through the penal system.

Sit down, grab a sweet tea… and 🌿 it's 4:20. This one might be a little long...

It’s taken me more than 24 hours to really process Dolly’s passing. I loved Dolly (who didn’t?) but I wasn’t prepared for the flood of emotions that came with losing her.

Maybe it’s because Dolly never felt like a distant celebrity. She felt like ours. Like a piece of Tennessee we just assumed would always be here. And as I’ve thought about who she was, what she represented, and the example she left behind, one question keeps coming back to me....

WHAT WOULD DOLLY DO? 🦋

Dolly knew what it meant to come from very little and to be underestimated. I can’t help but see some of that same strength in Tennesseans still fighting for legalization—patients seeking compassionate care, veterans asking to be heard, and small business owners struggling to survive.

Dolly didn’t just talk about loving Tennessee. She showed us what loving Tennessee looks like.

When people needed help, Dolly showed up. And when people chose a different path from her own, she gave them dignity without judgment.

Isn’t that what we should expect from those elected to represent us?

I couldn’t find where Dolly ever publicly took a position on cannabis legalization in Tennessee, and I won’t put words in her mouth or claim this was her cause—it wasn’t. But cannabis was certainly a cause close to someone very dear to her. Her longtime friend Willie Nelson has spent decades advocating for legalization and served as co-chair of NORMLs Advisory Board.

And yes, most of us remember 9 to 5. And if you do, you probably remember that scene….😂

Dolly, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin sit around a table, pass a joint, and talk about changing a system that wasn’t working for them. Cannabis activists have sat around countless tables doing much the same. Different issues, same fundamental question....

When a system is hurting people, what are we going to do to change it?

Tennessee lawmakers have an opportunity to lead with the qualities Dolly showed throughout her life:

👉Compassion before judgment.
👉People before politics.
👉Courage when change is difficult.

To those who will serve in our Tennessee Legislature next session, listen to the Tennesseans asking to be heard.

🧐Actually.... there is a far greater economic impact.... $1.7 BILLION.

That includes: direct sales, spending with other businesses, and the everyday spending of workers whose jobs and income depend on the industry.

‼️Tennessee is down more than $54 million in expected h**p tax revenue after the state banned most THC products earlier this year.

Lawmakers approved a new h**p tax last year at the same time they banned THCA, the compound that made smokable flower and full-spectrum C*D products legal and profitable under a federal Farm Bill loophole. The ban took effect this summer after a delay, forcing many h**p businesses to shut down or move out of state.

The tax itself started collecting in January, but the numbers have been a fraction of what the state projected. In February alone, officials expected nearly $8.8 million and only brought in about $61,000. Overall, the state has collected just 3% of the revenue it planned on.

Local growers have felt the hit too. Farmers who once made solid money on C*D have pivoted to other crops. Sales tax collections on h**p products are also down compared to previous years.

The shortfall hasn’t blown a hole in the state budget, though. Stronger-than-expected revenue from franchise, excise, and general sales taxes has covered most of the gap so far.

The question of ma*****na legalization — medical and/or recreational?
It is all currently illegal in Tennessee.
I continue hear from many of you with personal stories.
I plan to post many of these stories so keep them coming.
(***NOTE: I share regardless if pro or con.
So far, only two con … most pro for medical … AND, some recreational.)

We wake up about every couple hours to help my wife get up to go to the bathroom or just to set in a chair.
The pain is unbearable.
It kills me to see it and watch her daughter see her mom — once vibrant and so alive fade more everyday.
My wife was diagnosed with two kinds of cancer.
She is prescribed two kinds of opiates plus other pain killers … two muscle relaxers and so on — over nineteen prescriptions a month.
We visited friends that moved from Tennessee to Washington.
Her friends saw how the pills were killing her and told her to try a THC gummy.
IT took the place of 16 opioids and 8 muscle relaxants.
That’s $30 a month for the gummies compared to the over $500 a month for opioids.
My wife asked her pain clinic what would happen if THC was found in her urinalysis.
They told her they would say she did not cooperate with her medial pain plan and she would never get another pain doctor in Tennessee.
So, guess what?
We put our house up for sale.
We have to leave our home to get her natural help that won’t kill her.
We leave our jobs, our business, our home, our friends, our family.
We leave Tennessee not to get high, but to live.

Veterans who have served our country deserve compassionate healthcare options that allow them to live with dignity and a high quality of life.

For Kristi, a Tennessee veteran living with Multiple Sclerosis, the ban on h**p products such as THCA is threatening the very alternative she has relied on for years to manage her chronic pain and avoid addictive opioids.

Rather than having safe, reliable access to the care she needs, Kristi is facing unnecessary roadblocks created by our legislature. Why does Tennessee treat our Veterans this way?

But she isn't standing alone—and she isn't backing down.

A big thank you to Free Hearts for standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Kristi to help bring this critical issue to light and gain traction.

Today is the day, let's get out there and vote!

The most important control comes from the Senate. We have 17 Senators running...11 of them voted to ban h**p...several unopposed!!... with zero plans for moving forward on Legalization. Let's get rid of them!
