🚨 **When the Tornado Sirens Go Off… and It’s NOT Test Day** 🌪️
We know the first instinct might be to grab your phone, step outside, and post “Why are the sirens going off???”… but this is your friendly reminder from your fire department:
👉 If it’s not the scheduled test time, **treat it like the real deal.**
Here’s what you *should* do instead:
✔️ **Go inside immediately** – don’t stand in the yard trying to spot the storm
✔️ **Head to a safe place** – basement, storm shelter, or an interior room away from windows
✔️ **Stay informed** – turn on weather alerts, TV, or a reliable weather app
✔️ **Protect yourself** – bring pets inside and grab essentials if you can do so quickly
🚫 What *not* to do:
❌ Don’t go outside to “check it out”
❌ Don’t wait for someone on Facebook to confirm it’s real
❌ Don’t assume it’s “probably nothing”
We promise — sirens don’t go off randomly just to keep things exciting. If you hear them outside of testing, **there’s a reason.**
📢 Bottom line:
**Take the sirens seriously so we don’t have to take chances with your safety.**
We just wanted to make this aware with the recent weather we have encountered here in Newton County these past few months. Our Newton County officers will do their best to inform to public on an event that has, or will happen to ensure everyone's safety regarding severe weather, or an emergency response, such as a fire, or crash in the area. With that being said, if any of these things happen, we need everyone to remain at home to limit unnecessary traffic in areas where a disaster has occurred!
