What’s cooking at the library?
Chocolate Hummus

1 can chickpeas or black beans
⅓ cup cocoa powder
⅓ cup pure maple syrup
⅓ cup almond butter, peanut butter, or tahini
1 tsp. vanilla
¼ tsp. salt
1 to 2 Tbsp. milk, if needed to thin
Chocolate chips, if desired

Drain and rinse the beans really well. Add to a food processor.
Add the remaining ingredients except milk and chocolate chips. Blend until completely smooth, stopping occasionally to scrape the sides of the bowl. If it is too thick, add some milk until it is a nice smooth consistency for dipping.
Transfer to a container and refrigerate to cool and blend flavors before serving. Top with chocolate chips if desired.
Serve with fruit, apple slices, pretzels, graham crackers, etc. Store in the refrigerator.

What’s cooking at the library?
Flour Tortillas
2 c. flour
½ tsp. baking powder
½ tsp. salt
3 Tbsp. oil
1 c. water
Mix the ingredients together to form a bread dough consistency. Pull into balls about the size of walnuts or a golf ball. Roll out very thin on a floured board. Turn the pan onto high heat. Cook until the first side blisters, then turn over.

To use a press: Line the bottom press with parchment paper. Partially flatten a ball of dough, dipping in flour on both sides. Place the dough in the center of the press. Top with parchment paper. Press down firmly on the press. Lift the top plate. Rotate a half turn. Press again firmly to make the tortilla as thin as possible. If you desire a thinner tortilla, use a rolling pin to roll a little thinner.
