🎶 Bad, Bad Leroy Brown… (but like… in a good way) 🎶
Ladies and gentlemen, meet Leroy Brown arguably the baddest dog in the whole dang town… if “bad” means stealing your spot on the couch, your heart, and possibly your sandwich when you’re not looking.
At about two years old, Leroy has officially reached that perfect age where he’s past the puppy chaos but still fully committed to being a certified goofball. He’s neutered, chipped, fully vetted, and emotionally prepared to be your shadow, your sidekick, and your unsolicited life coach (his advice is mostly “we should go outside again”).
Leroy is:
• 🚶‍♂️ A walking professional – leash skills? Solid. Strut? Impeccable. Neighborhood admiration? Guaranteed.
• 🐕 A dog’s dog – he loves other pups and would absolutely thrive with a canine best friend to wrestle, zoom, and share insider gossip with.
• 🎾 Dog park MVP material – expect fans. Possibly a fan club.
• 🐱 Firmly anti-cat – Leroy believes cats are suspicious, possibly magical, and definitely not to be trusted.
Personality-wise, Leroy is equal parts gentleman and lovable do**us. He’ll sit politely like he’s posing for a Renaissance painting… and then immediately trip over his own feet getting off the chair. It’s range. It’s depth. It’s Leroy.
If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will:
• keep you laughing,
• keep you moving,
• and keep your current dog entertained like a full-time job…
Then Leroy Brown is ready to move in and upgrade your life.
Apply today before he books his next dog park appearance and becomes too famous for us all. Goochland Pet Lovers

**Adopted**

When Madame Zeroni first arrived, we were bracing ourselves for a full-blown “rampaging Rottie” situation, she was absolutely, 100% not interested in coming along quietly. 😅
But give her just a few hours, and the truth comes out: Ms. Z is a world-class snuggler… just an enthusiastic one. Think “Rottie in a China shop”, all heart, all love, and maybe just a little light on that whole self-restraint thing.
At around 1.5 years old and 80 pounds, Madame Zeroni is a confident, devoted girl who embodies everything people love about Rottweilers. She’s protective, affectionate, and ready to be someone’s loyal sidekick. She walks well on a leash but would benefit from a little polishing on her basic manners, she’s got the brains; she just needs a refresher course!
Ms. Z has lived with other pets before, but we do recommend a meet-and-greet to make sure it’s a perfect match. She is spayed, microchipped, and fully vetted and ready to head home with her forever family. Even our vet staff said she is a big ol' sweetie pie.
If you’re looking for a big-hearted (and headed) companion, Madame Zeroni might just be your girl. ❤️ Goochland Pet Lovers

These kitties have been too young to be spayed and neutered, you must either live within Goochland or a surrounding jurisdiction. Goochland Pet Lovers

**Adopted**

Sweet Angus is still looking for his forever home. Angus is a younger beautiful beagle boy who recently received his heartworm treatment. Angus gets along with other dogs, cats, and kitties galore. He is on the smaller side, about ~20ish pounds, and is all smiles. Angus will need a few more weeks of activity restriction, but once he is healed he will be able to live the rest of his years out like a normal doggie! We are open until 7pm today. Did you know that April is Volunteer Appreciation Month?

Every single day, our volunteers show up for the animals and our community in ways that truly make a difference. From cleaning and walking dogs to socializing animals, answering phones, and greeting visitors, their impact touches every corner of the shelter. In 2025 alone, volunteers logged 8,240.5 hours total.

We were proud to recognize three outstanding individuals as the 2025 Volunteers of the Year at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Event (with one not pictured):

Janet Wingfield joins us every Thursday to assist our veterinary team with spays, neuters, and other procedures. These are often long and demanding days, but Janet meets each one with dedication. She somehow still ends it with a smile (and a mop in hand).

Laura Rizza volunteers every Tuesday and Thursday with our Dog Crew, an essential team that keeps our adoption area running smoothly. This amazing group helps clean all of dog adoption, catch up on laundry, dishes, Kong filling, organizing, helping adopters meet with dogs, and even more. She travels over 30 minutes each way to be here and also supports our education team through Goochland Pet Lovers.

Last but certainly not least is Erin Dudley (not pictured). A true weekend warrior, Erin dedicates every Saturday to Dog Crew. She starts with cleaning and then spends extra time walking and working with the dogs. Her consistency and commitment make a lasting impact on every dog, but especially the “tough” ones.

To all of our volunteers… Thank you! Your time, consistency, effort, and energy put into our shelter does not go unnoticed. We simply couldn’t do this without you.

If you need a certified Idaho couch potato, then Harley is ready to rev his engines and drive straight to your front door.

Harley is a senior beagle who was found as a stray and never reclaimed. In true retired beagle fashion, he would love nothing more than to eat crumbs off the kitchen floor and nap all day long.

Harley would thrive in a home that appreciates the simple things in life: cozy beds, sun puddles to bask in, and a companion to hang out with. Harley gets along fine with other calmer energy dogs and kitties. And if you can’t tell, he does just fine with kids, too. Harley’s adoption fee has been sponsored by East Coast Beagle Rescue! Harley is neutered, chipped, and fully vetted. Goochland Pet Lovers

Looking for a little chaos gremlin in a tuxedo coat? A midnight typist? A professional toy scatterer with a motorboat purr? Then you are in luck!

Machine Girl is a ~9 month old long hair tuxedo kitty with a mischievous personality. She has the loudest purrs and will gladly play with all the toys. Night time is when she truly comes alive. Back when she was an office kitty, we would come in the morning to 73 open tabs and notes on the computer. Toys would cover the floor and her food bowl tipped over. She’s currently living in a foster home where the same thing runs true - except she does love to sleep on the bed and snuggle her humans once she’s done running around. She’s been exposed to a rambunctious toddler in her foster home which she’s taken really well to. She’s also met a couple of nice calm dogs, and while she was scared at first, she sleeps on the bed with them now.

Machine Girl tested positive for FeLV (feline leukemia), but don’t let that scare you. She has otherwise been a healthy normal kitty, and as long as other cats in the house are vaccinated, she can coexist and live happily in a blended family. Machine Girl has been spayed, chipped, and fully vetted. If you’re interested in meeting her, let us know and we can arrange for her foster mom to bring her into the shelter. Goochland Pet Lovers
