Local soil and water conservation districts are self-governed subdivisions of state government that establish priorities, set policy and administer programs to conserve natural resources. In Virginia, Districts manage programs to improve and protect soil and water quality. This is done through public outreach and education efforts, demonstration projects and by establishing links with schools to h

elp students become environmentally aware adults. Soil and water conservation districts are the necessary connection between landowners and other agencies that provide technical and financial assistance as well as compliance programs that will solve and prevent natural resource problems. Working with land owners to encourage good stewardship of the environment.
