Happy Labor Day from Ascension Parish Government!

Today, we recognize the hardworking men and women whose dedication, skill, and service help keep Ascension Parish and communities across our country moving forward.

We’re especially proud of the many Ascension Parish Government employees who serve our residents every day—maintaining our roads and drainage systems, caring for our parks and facilities, supporting public safety and essential services, and working behind the scenes to make our parish a better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Labor Day is a celebration of the contributions of workers past and present, and today we say thank you to all those whose hard work continues to strengthen our community.

Household Hazardous Material Day is happening NOW!

It’s already a busy morning at Lamar-Dixon, and our crews are ready to keep things moving! If you have old paint, electronics, batteries, household chemicals, tires, appliances or other accepted materials taking up space around the house, Ascension Parish residents still have until 1:00 PM TODAY to bring them by for safe and responsible disposal.

HYUNDAI-POSCO Louisiana Steel (HPLS) officially broke ground on its new $5.8 billion steel manufacturing facility in Ascension Parish, marking the beginning of a transformational investment for our community, our state and U.S. manufacturing.

The first-of-its-kind facility will be the world’s first EAF-based, fully integrated steel mill dedicated to the automotive industry. Designed to produce steel with approximately 70% fewer CO₂ emissions than conventional blast furnace methods, the facility will help establish a made-in-America steel supply chain supporting automotive production across the United States.

The impact here at home will be significant. The project is expected to support approximately 5,400 jobs, including about 1,300 direct and 4,100 indirect jobs, with starting average salaries for HPLS employees of $95,000. HPLS is also developing on-the-job training opportunities and has made a commitment to hiring local talent.

Once operational, the facility is expected to produce up to 2.7 million metric tons of steel annually, strengthening our nation’s manufacturing capabilities while bringing new opportunities for generations of Ascension Parish families.

Today’s groundbreaking brought together federal, state and local leaders alongside executives and representatives from Hyundai Motor Group, Hyundai Steel, HYUNDAI-POSCO Louisiana Steel and POSCO to celebrate the start of this historic project.

Today, we broke ground on more than a new facility—we marked the beginning of a new chapter for Ascension Parish.

Partners in Progress was more than a luncheon—it was an investment in West Ascension’s future.

Thanks to our generous sponsors and more than 500 attendees, we presented $18,000 to the RPCC West Ascension Scholarship Fund. This check represents education, opportunity and our commitment to preparing local residents for the careers being created through more than $20 billion in new industrial investment.

This is partnership. This is progress.

Strong communities are built by people who see a need and find a way to make a difference.
