With increased tropical moisture in the region and a frontal system approaching the area this weekend, South Texas is in for a rainier week. These are the latest forecast rainfall amounts through Friday. While not everyone will see exactly these values, these tropical downpours are capable of producing rainfall on the high-end of the forecast. Where a storm moves over, visibility will quickly drop along with ponding/flash flooding. Make sure to remember when you come across a flooded road: Turn Around, Don't Drown!

With the recent detection of New World Screwworm (NWS) in Texas, the Victoria Office of Emergency Management (VOEM) is actively monitoring the situation, and at this time, there are no suspected or confirmed cases in Victoria County.

VOEM encourages residents to Inspect, Report, and Stay Informed.

🌀 TROPICAL UPDATE: MONITORING THE GULF FOR POTENTIAL DEVELOPMENT

Forecast models continue to suggest that an area of disturbed weather could develop in the Bay of Campeche this weekend into early next week. While some tropical development remains possible, the overall signal continues to favor a weak and disorganized system.

📌 What We Know
• Development chances remain relatively low.
• Most forecast guidance keeps any low-pressure area weak.
• The greatest impact may be an increase in tropical moisture rather than a named storm.
• Current ensemble guidance shows little indication of a significant tropical cyclone.

🌧️ Potential Impacts
• Tropical moisture may spread northward into Texas and portions of the western Gulf Coast next week.
• Rain and thunderstorm coverage could increase across the region.
• Locally heavy rainfall may be possible in areas that experience repeated rounds of storms.

• Whether a closed low-pressure center will actually form.
• How far north the deepest tropical moisture will reach.

⚠️ Bottom Line

The Goliad County Sheriff’s Office has been aware of the rumors about a possible threat against the Goliad High School since yesterday.

Upon discovery of the information, the GCSO began investigating immediately. Deputies have been working to determine the validity of the information that is being spread via social media, while enacting a plan to ensure the safety of our schools.

The GCSO is working with GISD to resolve this matter in a manner that reveals the truth while ensuring the safety of students and staff.

We thank the citizens who called the GCSO with information about the possible threat.

The safety of our schools is a priority at the Goliad Sheriff’s Office, and we will continue to actively investigate threats and prevent violence in GISD campuses.

Natural disasters will continue to happen. Prepare yourself during the 2026 Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday for emergencies that can cause physical damage like hurricanes, flash floods and wildfires. You can purchase certain emergency preparation supplies tax free during the sales tax holiday. There is no limit on the number of qualifying items you can purchase, and you do not need to give an exemption certificate to claim the exemption.

This year’s holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, and ends at midnight on Monday, April 27.
