Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy

Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy The curriculum will offer students the opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge they gain to tangible, project-based engineering problems.

The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy provides students with the opportunity to supplement their education at Dos Pueblos High School with carefully designed, hands-on, college-preparatory science curriculum. Students with varied academic backgrounds benefit from exposure to engineering in an accessible yet challenging environment within the Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy, with an engaged and curio

us academic community. Although the engineering academy is interested in increasing the number of college-bound science and engineering students, it is not our intent to “groom” future engineers. Rather, our program will provide students with an exciting and unique opportunity to develop analytical and critical thinking skills that will benefit them in whatever career or academic path they choose to pursue. The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy will instill in students not only an appreciation for science and engineering, but also a passion for learning that extends into all areas of knowledge.

We'd like to share some exciting news! The Santa Barbara Unified School District has issued a press release highlighting the DPEA's collaboration with local elementary school districts to develop STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) curriculum. See the link below for the full press release.

This also marks the first time we have announced publicly that Formative Foundation is the new name of the DPEA Foundation. Formative Foundation is the non-profit organization that shepherds funding to support the DPEA program and other innovative educational initiatives such as the STEAM Consortium. We will also continue to be known as the DPEA Foundation, and legally we have ensured that we can continue to do business as the DPEA Foundation for the foreseeable future.

Hello DPEA Alums from Class of 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023!

We hope that you are doing well and learning many new things!

We have an important request to ask of you. (This request was also sent out to you via email on January 13th.) Every year, the State of California collects data about CTE pathway completers in high school. (You completed two CTE pathways in Engineering Technology and Product Innovation & Design.) Basically, the State would like to know where you have taken your career path after graduation.

This short survey will help the State of California to understand where our CTE $ have achieved desired outcomes - i.e. YOU going on to a career or college. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScQ02MOWyFiUHiadq215OyqmtC7XcHoxpa2YwSU-ZmKnDuKCg/viewform

Would you mind taking this short survey to help DPEA and California with the data necessary to continue to invest in students' college and career pathways going forward? Thank you to those that have already completed the survey. For those of you who have not, please take just a few minutes to do so now.

Thank you!

Hey SB Unified CTE Alumni! Hope life after high school is treating you well! We're trying to catch up with all of you awesome folks and find out how things have been since graduation. Would you mind giving us a hand by filling out this quick post-high school survey? The first part is all about meeti...

More exciting news to share! The DPEA was featured in an online webinar series on Saturday, Feb 26th. COLOR, LIGHT, MOTION is an online series featuring media artists, scholars and educators in dialogue about artworks from the David Bermant Collection of media and kinetic arts.

The episode, titled the "Art of Engineering", focused on educational programs supported by the David Bermant Foundation. DPEA founders, Amir Abo-Shaeer and Emily (West) Shaeer were featured in this episode. The David Bermant Foundation has been an important DPEA partner for many years, and the DPEA would not be on its current trajectory without the vision and influence of David Bermant.

Here is the newsletter about it with a link to the video of the episode.

*The UCLA Art|Sci Center is home to the Art|Sci Collective, an international group of researchers and creatives that develops projects, workshops, performances, and exhibitions that address social, ethical and environmental issues related to scientific innovations. If you would like to get involved, you can subscribe to their newsletter or reach out to [email protected]

The late David Bermant was born in New York City and grew up in Manhattan. In January of 1941, six months after graduating cm laude from Yale University at age 21, he joined the U.S. Army. He ended his army career as a major of artillery in Patton’s Third Army, earning a bronze star with an oak l...

Calling all DPEA Alumni - we need your help!

Since you graduated from the DPEA, a Career Technical Education (CTE) pathway, we need to know what you’ve been up to since you left. Every year, our CTE Grants require us to gather information on how our graduates are doing. We try to collect this information every year by sending out a survey. The results of the survey help us fulfil our grant requirements, and they provide the SB Unified School District with information about how they can improve programs in the future.

Would you please take a few minutes to fill out the survey? Go to https://tinyurl.com/CTESurvey2021-2022

Thanks in advance for your help!

Dear SB Unified CTE Alumni: We hope that you are thriving in your life after high school! In an effort to learn about how our students do once they graduate, we are reaching out to ask if you will please complete this post-secondary survey. We are required to share with the California Department of....

Happy New Year (and 2nd Semester to our students) from the DPEA!

Construction continues to move along, and everything is on track for the new facilities to be completed this fall. These photos feature the DPEA Team sitting in the frame for the astronomical observatory that will be featured on the occupiable roof deck. They progressively zoom out for perspective.

A YouTube LIVE stream of the three video cameras archiving the DPHS CTE Pavilion Construction Project can be found on our website at https://www.dpengineering.org/cte-pavilion-construction-cameras.html. We are thrilled to see the progress!

We are excited to share this article from the Winter Issue of the Montecito Journal magazine. It celebrates the history and achievements of the DPEA and features student and alumni voices to highlight the profound impact the program and staff have had on young women in particular.

The long-standing faith of parents and partners in the value of our mission and vision has made our story – and the inspiring stories of our graduates – possible. Thank you for believing in the transformative potential of interdisciplinary, project- and design-based Career Technical Education.

Thank you for this inspiring article!
