LISTEN to this important message from LTG Mike Flynn, US Army (retired), warfighter and historian, delivered at Godspeak Calvary Chapel on 27 October 2024. I was honored to give the introduction and closing remarks.
LTG Flynn shared that we have experienced three arcs of American history, and we are in the third arc today. This is “a historically consequential time…we are in an existential arc of history.” These three arcs were “existential either to our ability to have a country or to maintain a country.”
The first arc was the founding of our country–the Revolutionary War. “A bunch of men decided they were going to stand against the tyranny of England and fight them. They all knew that if they lost, they were all going to be hung or shot. We had a great leader in George Washington. He was a man of great faith. “He would always take a knee before he went into battle but always stand on his feet and go to war.” They were at an existential point in history as they wanted to create a nation, and they had a great leader in George Washington, the man who led the troops in war and became the founding father of the USA. That was the leader we needed at that time.
The second arc of US history was the Civil War. This was an existential threat as the outcome would determine whether the USA would remain together. He points out that Abe Lincoln ran for office eight times and lost, and then he decided to run for president. Thank God! We had a great leader for that time in Abe Lincoln. It cost him his life.
From that point in time until now, we have been participants in many wars, but they were not existential to the existence of America.
But now, we are in the third arc of history for our country. He looks at history as the future. He sees it through the eyes of his grandchildren. He wonders where they will be if they survive to an old age. We are an an existential point in our nation’s history, and we don’t have a leader to point to.
“So, who is in charge? We are in charge! So, what does that mean to you as individuals? What do you do? One of the questions I want you to always ask yourself is, ‘What are you willing to fight for?’ …Whatever you are willing to fight for, you are probably willing to die for.”
“Our founders taught us courage and accountability… they got into the flight… they all took into account that they could lose everything… and they personally could be hung or shot, and they all knew it… they stood up against the greatest fighting force–the greatest army and the greatest navy in the world at the time… and they stood up this great experiment [the USA]… that constitutional foundation, which is like the fulfillment of the promises we find in the Bill of Rights, comes almost verbatim, directly from the Bible. If you really study the Constitution… 70-80% of our Constitution comes directly from the Bible… The Ten Commandments. If you look at the Bill of Rights… those are promises we made to each other. The fulfillment of those promises is in the Constitution.”
“So, what are you willing to fight for? Because we are in the third arc of history. It’s not about Democrats and Republicans. Get that out of your lexicon. This is about a shift towards globalism…”
“The war that we are in, because it is a war… we need warriors to stand up for this country… we are supposed to be a constitutional republic where We The People decide what we are going to do.”
“We are a country that is built on biblical principles and values, and we have to be absolutely fearless about that.”
We are at a critical point in our country’s history with a crucial decision ahead of us—will we continue down the path of fundamentally transforming America, or will we return to our biblical founding principles that made the USA the strongest and most prosperous country in the world?
