This Memorial Day Weekend ,we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our freedom.

We are truly blessed to live in a nation protected by those who have served and continue to serve with courage, dedication, and selflessness.

Their sacrifices allow us to enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted each and every day.

As we gather with family and friends this weekend, let us never forget the true meaning of Memorial Day.

Take a moment to remember our fallen heroes, pray for their families, and thank those who continue to wear the uniform and protect our communities and nation.

From all of us at the Goldston Fire Department, we thank every service member, veteran, and military family for your sacrifice and commitment.

May we always remember that freedom is never free. 🇺🇸

*Never leave:
• Children
• Pets
• Elderly individuals
inside a parked vehicle for any amount of time.

Make sure pets have:
• Plenty of fresh water
• Shade

Limited time outside during peak heat hours.

Stay hydrated, avoid overexertion, and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning when possible.

If you see someone struggling with the heat, check on them and call 911 if needed.

Stay safe, look out for one another, and help protect our community during this heat.

🐾☀️ Heat Safety Reminder for Your Fur Babies ☀️🐾

With these hot summer temperatures, please remember our pets depend on us to keep them safe.

Heat can become dangerous very quickly for animals, even in a short amount of time.

Here are a few important ways to protect your pets during this heat:

*Make sure they always have plenty of fresh, cool water
*Provide shade and a cool place to rest
*Never leave pets in a vehicle — even for a minute
* Avoid walking them on hot pavement; if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws
*Limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day
*Watch for signs of heat exhaustion such as excessive panting, weakness, vomiting, or trouble breathing

Remember… our pets are family too.

A little extra care during extreme heat can save their life.

Please check on your outdoor pets and even your neighbors’ animals during these hot days.

Stay safe, stay cool, and keep those tails wagging. 🐾

🚨 Burn Ban Lifted 🚨
The statewide burn ban has officially been lifted.

While conditions have improved, Goldston Fire Department still encourages everyone to use caution when burning outdoors.

Please make sure you are burning safely, never leave a fire unattended, and always have a water source nearby.

We appreciate our community doing their part during the burn ban to help prevent wildfires and keep our firefighters and community safe.

As always, if you see smoke or fire that appears out of control, call 911 immediately.

Stay safe and continue to help us protect our community.

The Goldston Fire Department, along with the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office and Special Olympics of North Carolina came together for our annual fundraising event and what an incredible day it was.

This event is part of a long-standing partnership that helps support Special Olympics athletes across our state, providing opportunities for them to compete, grow, and inspire us all.

It was a day filled with fun, fellowship, and plenty of laughter among great friends, all coming together for an even greater cause.

We are proud to stand alongside our partners and our community to support these amazing athletes.

Thank you to everyone who came out, supported, and helped make this day such a success.

⛔️ : Ban still remains in effect for Chatham County until further notice⛔️

RALEIGH – The N.C. Forest Service has lifted a ban
The statewide ban on open burning went into effect March 28 due to hazardous forest fire conditions, and the ban remains in effect for Alamance, Anson, Cabarrus, Chatham, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Gaston, Guilford, Iredell, Mecklenburg, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Rockingham, Rowan, Stanly, Stokes and Union counties until further notice.

04/27/2026

The statewide burn ban remains in effect until further notice despite weekend rain in some areas. Persistent dry weather and increasing rainfall deficits from the last several months have left most of the state needing 10 inches of rain or more.

“While the rainfall we received over the weekend was a welcome sight, it offered little to no relief from widespread drought conditions while being nowhere near enough to reduce our wildfire risk,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Even the areas that received the heaviest amount of rain will quickly dry out from the sunshine and warmer temperatures. Until we get some additional rain and see more green-up in our forests, holding the burn ban in place statewide is the best option right now.”

While green-up and leaf-out are progressing at normal rate, low soil moisture, dry surface fuels and persistent low humidity are contributing to wildfire activity. For Western North Carolina, excessive forest fuels from Hurricane Helene are more available now than they were in 2025, low water levels in coastal areas have helped produce intense fire behavior where ground fire will likely be a long-term issue, and the Piedmont experienced 87 new wildfire starts over the weekend alone. Extended attack and mop-up efforts will be taxing and long-winded until drought conditions improve.

⛔️ Burn Ban Still in Effect 🚫
*Extreme Drought*

We know the weather has been beautiful, and many of you are ready to get outside and clean up your yards but please remember, we are still under a burn ban and extreme drought in our area.

Conditions remain very dry, and it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

What may seem like a small, controlled burn can quickly get out of hand with the current conditions.

The North Carolina Forest Service and Goldston Fire Department want to remind everyone:

*Outdoor burning is prohibited
*Dry leaves, brush, and debris can ignite easily
*Wind and low humidity can cause fires to spread rapidly.

For your safety and the safety of our community, please do not burn until conditions improve and the ban is lifted.

Let’s do our part to protect our homes, our neighbors, and our firefighters.

If you see smoke or fire, do not hesitate to call 911

Stay safe!
