Memorial Day is the day we pay respect to all those who didn't come home. It is a day of solemn contemplation over the cost of freedom. It is a day to pause and reflect upon the many service members who risked and ultimately lost their lives fighting on behalf of the United States. 🇺🇸

NC Center for Missing Persons Rolls Out New Alert for Weather Related Endangerment

North Carolina now has a Missing Endangered Weather Alert designed to help locate individuals who are missing on foot and may be at risk due to dangerous weather conditions.

This alert can be issued when a missing person meets one of two criteria paths:

1) Weather-Based Danger. A person is missing on foot and exposed to extreme heat or cold conditions that pose a serious risk to their safety.

2) Post-Weather Event Risk. A person is missing immediately following a significant weather event, such as a hurricane, where persons may be unaccounted for.

Like other alerts, this tool helps quickly share critical information with the public when time matters most. Alerts may be delivered through systems like Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), sending notifications directly to phones in affected areas.

Why it matters?
Weather can quickly turn a missing person case into a life-threatening situation. This alert fills that gap, giving law enforcement another way to get the public involved quickly and effectively.
