This past weekend marked the first Level 2 offering of the Association's Rope Rescue School, held at Mount Jefferson State Natural Area in Ashe County.

Twenty eight attendees from various fire and rescue agencies spent 3 days focusing on current rope rescue topics. Friday's lecture topics consisted of medical treatment considerations introducing the students to the Athena GTX WVSM (wireless vital sign monitor), anchor forces, the concept of spanned anchors, a review of forces on loaded rope systems ranging from dedicated main and belay to tandem rope systems, and also a discussion of dynamics of harnessed falls and potential injuries

Saturday was an extended operations day with multiple rope/patient care scenarios that ended with two night time events that pushed the students outside the usual boundaries seen in many classes.

The program finished on Sunday with three stations dealing with arborist/tree stand type events and different rigging options depending on equipment and personnel availability.

We would like to thank the following:
Craig McClure (https://www.facebook.com/C.Douglas.Mac) from CMC Rescue (https://www.facebook.com/cmcpro) for his rope forces lecture on Friday and also thank Athena GTX (https://www.facebook.com/AthenaGTX) for supplying medical monitoring equipment for the scenarios

Another Level 1 offering is planned in the Spring so be watching for the announcement for this class.
