There is an extreme heat warning in the area for today and tomorrow. Please be mindful of how much time you are spending outdoors and be especially careful with children, pets, and those vulnerable to the extreme temperatures. Take breaks often, drink plenty of water, and know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

You may notice boots and pants staged on the floor or jackets hanging from truck doors when you come to the station. It’s not because we’re messy. It’s because we’re prepared. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends turnout time guidelines of 60 seconds for EMS calls and 80 seconds for fire calls. Why the extra 20 seconds for fire emergencies? It gives us time to quickly gear up so we’re ready to fight fires the moment we arrive on the scene. Every second counts in an emergency, and staying ready means we can respond quickly when Goldsboro needs us most!

Crews from Engine 2, 5, and Tower 1 work together in a simulated confined space training exercise. The scenario involved 2 individuals stuck in a tank, with one victim being alive and one being deceased. The crews worked efficiently together to quickly access the location, assess the situation, and evacuate the individuals. Please feel free to click on each individual picture for a briefing on what is happening in each frame.

The GPD gave us donut seeds for National Donut Day today. So naturally we planted a little garden for them on their side of the building to commemorate our great friendship.

A month after the donut debacle (when GPD brought Kinston donuts but not us) they kindly decided to bring us a couple boxes for their favorite holiday, National Donut Day. Of course they had to have some fun with it and the first box was donut seeds. The second box, however, were fresh donuts! Thank you GPD for the laughs and the donuts!

We want to extend a HUGE thank you to our friends at Seymour Johnson AFB and all of the local Girl Scout troops for the sweetest delivery ever!

Operation Cookie Drop is traditionally a program that sends Girl Scout cookies to military members deployed overseas. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, more cookies were donated than could be shipped, and SJ thoughtfully chose to share the extra treats with local first responders! We are incredibly grateful for the strong partnership we share with the base and our fellow first responders, but probably most importantly, to the hardworking Girl Scouts who dedicated their time and efforts to fundraising in support of our military members! Your kindness and generosity do not go unnoticed!

To everyone involved, thank you! We appreciate you more than words can say! Now, who wants to place bets on how long it will take for us to eat these?
