A note from our editors in response to the many calls, emails, and other messages we have been receiving since U.S. military officials confirmed an F-15E was shot down over Iran this morning:

Until we learn more about the incident from CENTCOM officials, we will not speculate on this developing story, but because the news is out there, we can confirm the following:

Seymour Johnson Air Force Base is the lone schoolhouse for all F-15E aviators. So, yes, it is likely that the crew trained in the skies over Wayne County, whether the jet had an SJ on its tail or not.

Because of that — and because we understand that the Strike Eagle family is a relatively small circle — our thoughts and prayers are with every man, woman, and child connected to the airframe and its mission.

Our expectation is that we will provide some additional details in the April 12 edition of Wayne Week, but right now, we are, like so many of you, simply praying for the crew and their families.

Until then, be well — and look out for your neighbors, Wayne County.

Prayers for everyone In Harm’s way. Thank You New Old North for updates.

Due to the overwhelming number of emails, messages, and calls we have received since this morning’s announcement by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, we thought we would offer this:

Despite rumor and innuendo circulating online, neither 4th Fighter Wing nor CENTCOM officials have officially confirmed that the F-15Es that went down in Kuwait were, in fact, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base assets.

So, until that changes, here is what we can say:

SJAFB is, indeed, the lone schoolhouse for all Strike Eagle aviators so there is likely a local connection.

And it is also true that the F-15E community is a tight-knit one, so our thoughts and prayers are with every man, woman, and child connected to the aircraft and its mission.

Fortunately, military officials have confirmed that all of the air crew members involved in the three F-15E crashes are safe.

Our hope is that they — regardless of their home duty station — will remain that way for the duration of Operation Epic Fury and that the Wayne County community will, as it always has, wrap its arms around our Team Seymour service members and their families.

More details about the Strike Eagle incident, as they are confirmed by official sources, will be published in the March 8 edition of Wayne Week.

Until then, be well.
