We celebrate you Mayor Foushee 🖤

𝙀𝙭𝙝𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙩 𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙩𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩! Each week we will be highlighting one of the incredible Orange County residents featured in our current special exhibit "United We Stand." This week we are highlighting Barbara Foushee, Mayor of Carrboro.

Barbara Foushee could easily have been featured in the “Health” section of this exhibit. Through her work for Laboratory Corporation of America, she has improved the wellbeing of countless people with cancer. However, she is being spotlighted in the “Service” category for the work she has done as a town council member, as Mayor of Carrboro and as a community engager. Her work has improved the quality of life for many in the Carrboro community. During her time in local government, Foushee has championed community building, addressed issues in housing, transportation and the environment.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, Foushee began working in clinical laboratory sciences. She has had a broad range of experiences including research, quality control, and her current role as a senior technologist in a molecular oncology laboratory in Research Triangle Park. Foushee began her second career in 2017 when, at the suggestion of a community member, she ran for a seat on the town council. Some of the highlights of her first term as mayor include the hiring of a new town manager and town clerk to ensure innovation and efficiency, the creation of a unified development ordinance and an action-oriented downtown area plan, the opening of the Drakeford Library Complex, and the Town of Carrboro receiving national recognition as an All-America City.
