Esmeralda County Fire District – Harvey Wildfire Update

The Harvey Wildfire is currently under the management of U.S. Wildland Fire Service resources. Federal wildland fire personnel have assumed command of suppression operations, and Esmeralda County Fire District resources have been released from the incident.

Fire suppression efforts will continue throughout the day utilizing both ground crews and aerial resources to strengthen containment lines, extinguish hot spots, and monitor fire activity. Esmeralda County Fire District remains in communication with incident command and is prepared to provide assistance if additional local resources are requested.

Residents are encouraged to remain aware of changing conditions, avoid the incident area, and follow any instructions issued by fire officials. Additional updates will be provided as new information becomes available.

Esmeralda County Fire District Incident Update

Esmeralda County Fire District is working in coordination with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) on a vegetation fire in the area.

At this time, there are no reported threats to structures or civilians. Fire crews are actively working in the area to contain the fire and monitor conditions.

Esmeralda County Fire District Adds New Ambulance

The Esmeralda County Fire District is pleased to announce the addition of a 2026 Type 1 remount ambulance to our emergency response fleet. The ambulance was purchased utilizing available Emergency Planning and Working Group (EPWG) funding and will be assigned to Station 1, our busiest station.

The new ambulance features a 2026 Dodge Ram 4500 four-wheel-drive chassis, improved suspension for patient comfort and rugged terrain, enhanced highway warning lighting, and radio communications capable of coordinating with local, state, and mutual-aid partners.
This addition is an important investment in public safety. Esmeralda County covers a large and remote area, including the U.S. 95 and U.S. 6 corridors, with long distances to hospitals and increasing activity in remote areas. This ambulance will improve the reliability of our EMS response for medical emergencies, highway incidents, hazardous materials incidents, and other emergencies throughout the county.

The Fire District also recognizes the continued support and partnership of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security (OEM) and our regional emergency response partners. These relationships strengthen interoperability, mutual aid, and our ability to respond effectively to emergencies throughout the region, including cooperation with Nye and Mineral Counties in Nevada and Mono County in California.

Esmeralda County Strengthens Emergency Food Preparedness

The Esmeralda County Fire District and Department of Emergency Management are pleased to announce the purchase of emergency food rations utilizing Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) funds.

Through this purchase, Esmeralda County now has enough emergency food rations to provide approximately 72 hours of emergency food for every resident of the county in the event of a major disaster or emergency.

Because of Esmeralda County’s rural location and long distances from major supply centers, maintaining emergency resources locally is an important part of our preparedness efforts. Severe weather, extended power outages, transportation disruptions, earthquakes, wildfires, or other emergencies could temporarily impact access to normal food supplies and services.

These emergency food supplies provide the County with an additional resource to support our communities during the critical first 72 hours of an emergency while local, regional, and state resources are mobilized.

The Fire District and Department of Emergency Management appreciate the continued support provided through the EMPG program and the Nevada Governor’s Office of Emergency Management/Homeland Security (OEM). Investments such as these help Esmeralda County continue building local preparedness and resiliency while strengthening our ability to work with our state and regional partners during emergencies.

25 YEARS — WE REMEMBER

Twenty-five years have passed since September 11, 2001, but we will never forget.

Today, we honor the 2,977 lives lost, and the families who have carried their absence for twenty-five years.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, first responders, military personnel, and courageous civilians who gave everything to help others.

We remember the lives they lived, the people they loved, and the lasting impact they left behind.

To every 9/11 family: your loved ones are remembered, your sacrifice is honored, and their stories will never be forgotten.

Twenty-five years later, we remember.
We honor.
We will never forget.

May God bless the victims, their families, the survivors, and all those who continue to carry the memories of September 11.
