It's National Dinosaur Day! In honor of this, we're excited to show off our own South Table Mountain's newest trail: the T-Rex Tooth Trail!

It weaves its way around the southern flank of South Table Mountain, connecting two existing trails.

Some of the highlights include a high traverse above an abandoned amphitheater built in the 1930's as part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) American New Deal agency during the the Great Depression.

Any idea why it was abandoned? Put your thoughts in the comments, and we'll have a post later this week with more information. The answer might s-s-s-surprise you.

Did you know the Golden Farmer's Market has been around for 24 years?! They've been around the block and know a thing or two. And, they open for the season tomorrow, Saturday, May 30.

The market opens at 8:00 a.m. and runs until 1:00 p.m., at 10th St. and Illinois in downtown Golden. Arrive early for the best produce!

Let's talk about mud 🌧️🥾

Spring in Colorado is often referred to, among other things, as mud season. Many trails, including trails in and around Golden, are packed dirt. This means that when it rains or snow melts rapidly, trails disintegrate into mush.

As unpleasant as mud is, hiking around a muddy trail damages the path itself by widening it. People see muddy footprints going to the side of a trail and they follow it, and the cycle continues until the path itself has widened.

Avoid muddy trails altogether, but if you do encounter mud, hike through, and not around it. Thanks for being a good neighbor, happy adventuring!

We've been waiting all month for this 👀🐕🏇

Thanks to everyone who submitted a photo of their furry bestie for the May Four-Legged Friend of the Month. We collect these throughout the month and send them out in our Visit Golden Newsletter, which you can subscribe to at the link in our bio.

We're beginning to gather up four-legged (and two-legged, looking at you, birds), for next 'month's (mid-May to -Mid June, we're working to get these out earlier).

1 - Our Four-Legged Friend of the Month is Maverick, an 11-month-old Golden Retriever from Arizona.
2 - Willow, a 6-month-old 'mostly Golden' from Denver - but she's moving to Golden soon 🎉
3 - CJ, a 10-year-old Quarterhorse from Arvada, Colorado
4 - Molly, an 11-year-old Golden from Amarillo, Texas

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, everyone, and especially to our veterans and military service members.

Be part of something bigger with the MURPH Challenge, a nationwide event, with a local host here in Golden, to honor the memory of LT Navy SEAL Michael P. Murphy. Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor due to his selfless bravery during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan.

Starting this Saturday and continuing through Labor Day, every 15 minutes between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. this shuttle will take passengers between iconic destinations throughout the greater Golden area.
