Today, on the 25th anniversary of the tragic September 11, 2001 attacks, we remember the 343 firefighters, 71 police officers, and more than 2,500 civilians who died that day, as well as the more than 9,000 people who died from illnesses related to the attacks.

We also want to take a moment to thank all of our Golden Valley firefighters and police officers who bravely run toward danger to protect our community.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, Sept 2, as part of the routine first Wednesday of the month siren testing, all of Golden Valley's sirens will sound twice: once at 12:58 pm and again at 1:03 pm. This is part of Hennepin County's work to upgrade siren control modules throughout the county.

If you’ve been near Duluth St and Hwy 100 recently, you’ve probably seen signs for the new East Fire Station. Before building demolition occurs, the City is working to make sure the site is safe and clean for the future.

The City recently completed environmental site testing and will clean up affected soil following all Minnesota Pollution Control Agency requirements. To help pay for this work, the City is seeking funding through Minnesota’s Brownfield Grant Program.

As part of the City’s Building Forward initiative, the Golden Valley Fire and Police Departments are expecting new facilities in the next few years. A common concern about this project is the potential noise and disruption that can come from being near public safety buildings, but those disruptions may not be as frequent as anticipated.
