The Friends of Land Between the Lakes works hand-in-hand with the U.S. Forest Service to provide educational programs, volunteer opportunities, and support for one of the nation’s most treasured outdoor spaces. From environmental education to conservation and recreation, our mission is to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Land Between the Lakes for future generations.

It was an honor to be a part of the Wounded Warrior Turkey hunt. Jamey Thweatt, with the Forest Service at LBL, brought the idea of a Wounded Warrier Hunt in the Elk and Bison Prairie to several key stakeholders. Former resident and Friends of LBL Advisor, Donnie Holland, Jack Smith, Gary Adams, LBL Area Supervisor Jim McCoy, the Friends of Land Between the Lakes, Executive Director, Elaine Jackson and Deputy Director, Steve Nolen, to create an opportunity that serves not only as a meaningful “thank you” to veterans, but also as a practical solution to mitigate the population. Thank you to WKDZ for the interviews and coverage of the 3 day event.

For the better part of Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings, science, conservation, preservation and The Wounded Warriors Project collided for a first-of-its-kind mission at the Elk & Bison Prairie in Land Between the Lakes. The operation: to
