DEADLINES ARE QUICKLY APPROACHING

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City of Gold Beach has the following three City Council openings for the November 3, 2026, General Election to be held in Curry County, Oregon:
Council Position # 1 Four-year term – Expiring December 15, 2030
Council Position # 3 Four-year term – Expiring December 15, 2030
Council Position # 5 Four-year term – Expiring December 15, 2030
Newly elected officials will begin filing their elected positions on Tuesday, December 15, 2026. Candidates wishing to file for one of those positions must file perfected petitions no sooner than Wednesday, June 3, 2026, and no later than 3:00 P.M., Tuesday,
August 4, 2026, for incumbents and 3:00 P.M., Tuesday August 11, 2026, for non-incumbents

The City also has openings on many of its different Committees and Commissions. Budget, Urban Renewal Advisory, Ordinance Review, Parks Master Plan, and Law Enforcement Citizen Committee all have seats available. This is your opportunity to serve and be a part of what is happening in your community.

The City of Gold Beach recently approved and implemented an updated Event Permit. This permit is a standard event permit consistent with other Cities in the State of Oregon. These permits can be found on the City website.
Why are Event Permits Important?
• Events are taking place on public property owned by the City. The City is the designated manager of all public property granted by the taxpayer approved City Charter. City staff are tasked with ensuring that public property is utilized for the purposes for which it is established. Therefore, it is important to know what is taking place on the property owned by the City or more specifically the taxpayers. Questions on the Event Permit help the City to understand the following:
o Does the event follow laws of the State or Oregon, or ordinances of the City of Gold Beach?
o Is there a risk to those attending on City property?
o Is the permit applicant properly insured in the event of damage to property or bodily harm to a participant?
o Is Alcohol being served? If so, are proper OLCC permits in place?
o Is food being served and sold to the public? If so, are proper Health Department permits in place?
o Are there fire, fireworks, or other risky activities taking place?

• Emergency Responders read the application and understand the risks involved to the public? The application is distributed to the Police, Fire and Public Works Departments. This helps them understand what event is taking place and sign off if they have no concerns. It also provides information they need in the event they are called out to respond to an emergency at the event. Examples of emergencies that could take place include fire, public disturbance or crimes, bodily injury requiring paramedic response, or a broken water or power line that requires utility workers to respond and repair.

• The City separates events for the general public and for-profit events. Events such as parades are for the general public and therefore the City absorbs the costs of City services that support the event. However, sometimes events are a private or for-profit event. If the entity holding the event requests city services such as Public Works garbage pick-up, or Police security patrols, then the event must pay for those services. These requested services should not be absorbed by the City or taxpayers. The permit holder will be billed for City services in this instance. This kind of information is part of the event permit

• The City may waive the fees of events for non-profits or social service agencies if events are in the best interest of the community. This fee waiver must be applied for and granted by the City Administrator. The City may also waive fees if the City is participating as a partner in an event.
Overall, the City event permit is not in place to limit the activities of citizens or organizations. It is in place to make sure the City understands fully what will take place on public property, and to ensure safety of citizens and property, and lawful conduct. It is also to ensure that the City is prepared to respond to an event based upon the risk factors presented as established in the event permit.

The City has now implemented a new application pertaining to events within the city limits. To avoid any interruption during your event this application must be approved prior to beginning. Any events that you currently have scheduled will still need to have this application approved by City department heads. The application can be found by clicking on this link.

We are getting so close to our Grand Re-Opening of our playground area. We know everyone is getting excited and especially with Party in the Park this weekend. We ask that you please pay attention to the signage and avoid the play area. It's very important to not disrupt the compacted ground for our new flooring to be poured.
