PUBLIC NOTICE
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: City of Gold Bar Salary Commission
The City of Gold Bar is officially seeking civic-minded residents to serve on its newly established, independent Salary Commission.
Per Ordinance #795, this non-partisan commission will consist of three (3) voting members responsible for reviewing and establishing the fair and appropriate compensation schedule for the City's elected officials (Mayor and City Councilmembers). To ensure total objectivity, the commission operates independently, and its final determinations are filed directly into the public record and incorporated into the city budget without requiring City Council approval.
Commission Overview & Commitment
• Core Duty: Review economic benchmarks and determine the salaries paid by the City to its elected officials.
• Term Length: Members serve for one salary review period. The term begins upon City Council confirmation and automatically terminates once the final statement of salaries is filed.
• Time Commitment: The commission must convene and determine salaries within sixty (60) days of being confirmed.
• Meetings: Meetings will be scheduled by the Mayor and/or City Clerk, who will act as facilitators. All meetings will be subject to the Open Public Meetings Act, include an opportunity for public comment, and be held at Gold Bar City Hall (the same location as regular Council meetings).
• Compensation: Members serve as volunteers without compensation.
Eligibility Requirements
To maintain absolute independence and avoid conflicts of interest, applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Must not be an elected official or employee of the City of Gold Bar.
• Must not be an immediate family member of a Gold Bar elected official or employee (defined as parents, spouse, siblings, children, or dependent relatives).
• Candidates must not have served on the immediate previous Salary Commission (volunteers cannot serve on two consecutive commissions).
How to Apply
Interested residents are invited to submit a volunteer application or a brief letter of interest. The City Clerk will review submissions and refer candidates to the Mayor for appointment, followed by City Council confirmation.
• Submission Deadline: Applications are being accepted on an ongoing basis until all three positions are filled.
• Where to Apply: Bring applications in person to Gold Bar City Hall (107 5th Street, Gold Bar, WA 98251) or submit them via email to the City Clerk's office.
For questions or to request an application packet, please contact Lisa Stowe, Clerk/Treasurer, at (360) 793-1101 or via email at [email protected]
