Good news, although water levels are still high, Skykomish River has dropped below flood stage and will continue to recede over the weekend.

Flooding continues along Snohomish County rivers. While some have crested and begun to recede, high water remains. Please continue to exercise caution when traveling near rivers.

• Major flooding continues along the Snohomish River, but it is forecast to crest in the hours ahead and drop throughout the day.
• The Stillaguamish River reportedly dropped below flood stage at Arlington overnight although it is still running high.
• The Skykomish River dropped below flood stage at Gold Bar early this morning and was forecast to continue to recede through the weekend.

Several rivers and areas continue to see river flooding this evening, which will continue into the weekend. This serves as a reminder to never drive or walk through barricades. Turn around, don't drown!

Minor to moderate flooding is reported along Snohomish County rivers, and flood warnings are in place into the weekend. Please exercise care when traveling and turn around if you encounter road closed signs or water over roadways. It may be tempting to see if you can drive through. Please don’t. Many cars will float in a foot of water. And when it is moving, water packs a serious punch. A cubic foot of water – about 7.5 gallons – weighs upwards of 62 pounds. That’s one reason why adults can be swept off their feet by as little as 6 inches of fast-moving water.

Good morning, for the past couple days our firefighters have reporting seeing this dog around the station 54 property - 40lbs, under 2 years old Shepard mix, no collar, male. We left food out which he gobbled up but wouldn’t let anyone close. Last night, the crew left a blanket and food in a storage building and was able to trap the dog to hopefully find the owner or get help it needs from County Animal control. In the meantime the pup is warm and dry, scared and appears a little grumpy it had to spend the night amongst the fire trucks.

**update we’ve had help from everett animal shelter, and he will be in their care https://www.everettwa.gov/148/Animal-Services

Please contact them at 425-257-6000 if you have any information on his owner.

Earlier today some individuals brought three unresponsive 10 week old puppies to station 54. Firefighters found all three puppies were in critical condition with respiratory and full arrest. Firefighters knew that three puppies suffering from same symptoms, the cause had to be environmental poisoning of some kind. Crews performed life saving procedures, including CPR, Oxygen therapy, and administered Naloxone (also known as Narcan). Also knowing that Fetanyl is one of the major causes of poisoning, when introduced in the air as a powder, it was our firefighters best guess that the puppies had experienced a fetanyl OD. The fire officer in charge called for the Sheriffs office to respond as they worked to revive the puppies. The three puppies responded to the treatment and were resusitated. The story doesnt end there. Sheriff deputies were able to find the individuals at their home and found three additional very sick puppies and rushed them to fire station 54 where firefighter-EMTs provided additional life saving measures. All six puppies were taken to a urgent care veterinary clinic. We are told all six puppies are recovering ! A big thank you to our firefighter -EMTs , our Sheriff deputies and the 24 hour urgent care veterinary clinic. It is our hope the puppies fully recover and find loving forever homes !

Our History

Fire Districts were not created by the State Legislature until 1934. Snohomish County Fire Protection District 26 was founded in 1968. Snohomish County Fire Protection District 28 was formed in 1978. From 1968 until 1980, the City of Gold Bar contracted with Fire District 26 for Fire Protection. From 1980 until 1991 the City had their own department. The City of Gold Bar Fire Department was merged into Fire District 26 in 1991 with the District’s annexation of the City. 24 Hour staffing was added in 2005 with the opening of the remodeled Station 54. That same year saw Advanced Life Support come to the Valley with the establishment of the Medic 54 program in partnership with King County Fire District 50. In 2018, Fire District 28 followed the example of the City of Gold Bar and was merged into the District to better serve the needs of the Valley.
