With warmer weather here, we’re seeing more and more people out enjoying the Rail Trail—and we love it. 🌞🚶‍♀️🚴‍♂️ With that increase in activity, we also want to help drivers feel confident navigating the pedestrian hybrid beacons (PHBs) along the way.
You’ll find PHBs installed on Mast Road near the Goffstown Jr. Baseball fields and by Pro Landscape Supply. These crossings are designed to keep pedestrians safe while still allowing traffic to flow smoothly.
Here’s what to know:
"Upon activation the yellow light briefly flashes, which alerts the driver that a pedestrian wants to cross the road. Then the yellow light becomes steady or solid yellow. Just as with a traffic light at a road intersection, this means the driver should safely stop the vehicle. When activated, the beacon will turn solid red for 4–7 seconds—drivers must come to a complete stop. After that, the signal switches to flashing red. This is where it works a little differently than a typical stop light: flashing red should be treated like a stop sign. Drivers should come to a full stop, then if the crosswalk is clear, they may proceed."
A little awareness goes a long way in keeping everyone safe. Thank you for helping make our community a safer place for all who enjoy the rail trail!
