At today's Board meeting, I cast the sole vote opposing salary increases for the budget director and vacant deputy director position. While I believe our current director is exemplary in job knowledge and performance of duties, I believe that any such increase should occur as part of the deliberations of the annual budget process to maintain consistency with long-standing Board practices.

It was standing room only at today's Board of Supervisors meeting as dozens of scholars from Gloversville Middle and High Schools delivered well-reasoned comments opposing the proposed garbage facility just down the hill from their schools. Hats off to these students for researching their positions and speaking out!

Congratulations to the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame and Parkhurst Field Foundation on the debut of the Stanley Harry Silver Collection. This remarkable collection of autographed baseballs dates back to the late 1800s and was collected over eighty years by Harry Silver (1890-1954), a World War I veteran and Silver Star recipient, and his son Stanley Silver (1935-2025).

Condolences to the Capano family on this terrible loss to our community

It has come to my attention that Matt Capano, the owner of True Value of Gloversville and New York Lunch, who also ran for mayor in this last term, has passed away.

While I personally did not know Matt, my husband had many conversations with him over the years. One thing he told me about Matt was how much he truly loved this city, but he wasn’t afraid to acknowledge or speak about the ugly either. I guess we had that in common.

Sending our deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to Matt’s family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved him during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, Matt. We’ll take it from here.
