Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society is dedicated to saving the lives of homeless pets through adoption, medical care, and community programs.

We work to create a compassionate community where every animal is valued, cared for, and given a second chance. Our mission is to improve life for all animals by providing temporary shelter, compassionate care, community support and education. GMHS serves Gloucester, Mathews and Middlesex counties and is located at 6620 Jackson Lane, Gloucester VA 23061. Our objectives are to:

- Be a beacon in a

nimal adoption, welfare, and advocacy.
- Provide care for stray and homeless animals.
- Be a driving force for animal education.
- Develop a culture of collaboration and service.

Please join us in celebrating our wonderful Volunteer of the Month, Sharon! 🎉

Sharon does do much for the dogs of GMHS, giving her time, love, and attention to help make their days brighter while they wait for their forever homes. Sharon even opened her own home and heart to Cupid, a sassy senior Jack Russell who stole her heart and is now living his absolute BEST life! 🥰

🎉 Congratulations to Taylor, our Employee of the Month! 🎉

We are so excited to recognize Taylor for her incredible hard work, compassion, and dedication to the animals in our care. ❤️

In addition to everything she does as a Medical Coordinator, Taylor has taken on an important role with our Foster Program and has done a wonderful job keeping things moving, supporting our amazing foster families, and helping more animals get into loving foster homes where they can thrive.

Now that the weather is finally cooling down, we’re so excited to get more of our shelter dogs out for Doggy Day Out adventures! 🐶🚗💙

These field trips give our dogs a much-needed break from the shelter and a chance to explore, sniff, relax, and show off their personalities outside of their kennels. And the best part? You can get involved, too! Fill out a GMHS volunteer application to get started! 🐾

🎉 NEW AT GMHS: YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM! 🎉

We’re excited to announce a new way for young animal lovers to get involved at GMHS! 💙

Our Youth Volunteer Program for ages 14–16 gives teens the opportunity to make a difference, earn community service hours, build responsibility and confidence, and learn more about the important work that goes into caring for shelter animals.

While our youth volunteers will not independently handle or walk shelter animals, their work behind the scenes is incredibly important. Every clean blanket, washed bowl, and helping hand gives our team more time to focus on the animals in our care.

Whether you need community service hours for school or simply want to give back, we’d love to have you join us! 🐾
