First Parish Burial Ground

First Parish Burial Ground One of America's oldest public landscapes. Established in 1644 near the old settlers first meeting house. On the National Register of Historic Places.

Established in 1644 near the old settlers first meeting house it served as Cape Ann's only place of internment for 54 years. It is believed to contain the graves of Gloucester's first settlers, including its ministers, teachers, mill owners and boat builders. Many graves commemorate the mariners of the 18th & 19th century, others contain the soldiers of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The lat burial took place as recently as 1925.
