1623 Studios 1623 Studios is a nonprofit community media center serving Cape Ann, Massachusetts. Public — Assist community members in making their own programs.

1623 Studios is dedicated to producing community and institutional programming, and to providing a forum for the free exchange of information and ideas which reflects the talents, skills, interests, concerns, and diversity of the Cape Ann community. ensure that community is the focal point of all of our decision-making processes. CAPE ANN — We're taking bold steps to be a leader of positive change in our local community. We serve the City of Gloucester, and the towns of Essex, Rockport, and Manchester-by-the-Sea on Comcast Cable channels 12, 20, and 67.

1623 Studios is a public access community television station, often called PEG Access. PEG stands for the three types of non-commercial programming we provide: Public, Education, and Government. Education — Cover all three school districts on Cape Ann. Government — Broadcast local municipal meetings. We are much more! 1623 Studios produces a host of Emmy award-winning original content to keep local viewers informed and entertained.

Learn how to confidently use 1623 Studios’ Member Camera Kit for your own productions and community event coverage.

Participants will learn how to properly set up and operate the camera, adjust essential settings, capture clear audio, frame and compose shots, use the tripod, and safely pack and care for the equipment. We’ll also cover practical tips for filming interviews, presentations, and events in the field.

This training is encouraged for members and volunteers who plan to check out 1623 Studios camera kits and is a great starting point for anyone looking to become more comfortable filming independently.

New to 1623 Studios or interested in becoming a member? Come discover everything your local community media center has to offer!

Our New Member Orientation will introduce you to 1623 Studios and the resources available through membership. You’ll get a tour of the studio, learn about our cameras and production equipment, and find out how to reserve equipment and studio spaces for your own projects. We’ll also introduce you to the many ways members can participate in 1623, from creating their own programming to volunteering on productions.

Orientation is a great first step for new and prospective members who want to learn more about 1623 Studios and how to get involved.

Gloucester’s new trash and recycling system is coming October 1, and yes, there are questions.

DPW Director Mike Hale breaks down what you actually need to know: why the city is making the switch, what the $300 annual fee covers, how those new carts will work on Gloucester’s very narrow streets, options for smaller carts and senior discounts, how to opt out, and even what to do with your old barrels.

Bottom line: New carts. New trucks. Same pickup day. A little adjustment period, and answers to some of the biggest questions residents have been asking. 🗑️
