We honor the innocent men, women, and children who never made it home, as well as the brave first responders and ordinary citizens who stepped forward in the face of unimaginable danger.

🚌 MN law has changed regarding school bus stop-arm violations.

Drivers must now stop at least 20 feet from a school bus when its red lights are flashing, even if the stop-arm is not extended or is not working.

Please slow down, pay attention, and give our kids plenty of room. Drive safe and stop for the bus! 🚌

‼️UPDATE: State Hwy 28 is back open ‼️

‼️🚨 There is an accident on State Hwy 28 in front of the Minnewaska Area High School. NO students and/or staff are involved. At this time the highway will be shut down until further notice. Traffic is being re-routed along Co Rd 24 & Co Rd 31. We will update when highway is reopened. ‼️🚨

In Minnesota, the statutory default speed limit for unmarked rural county roads is 55 mph. If you do not see a posted speed
limit sign, the 55 mph rule applies.

With the State Highway 28 detour along County Road 18 from Cyrus to Starbuck, we are continuing to see high speeds along this route. This applies to all county roads in Pope County.

This missing woman was last seen in the Glenwood area around 8PM last night.

PCSO Press Release:

On June 15, 2026 at approximately 0917 hours, a Pope County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol in the city of Cyrus located a suspicious vehicle parked at the old Cyrus School on North Nelson Street. During the investigation, the deputy made contact with a female who was inside the vehicle and learned that an adult male was inside the vacant school without permission.

Probable cause was established to arrest the male for 3rd Degree Burglary. Due to the size and layout of the building, a coordinated search was conducted with assistance from surrounding law enforcement agencies. Deputies utilized drones, K9 resources, and officers to safely search the building.

The adult male was eventually located, hiding in a small tunnel within the school. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Douglas County Jail on probable cause felony 3rd Degree Burglary and Obstruction of Legal Process.

The Pope County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank our partner agencies for their assistance during the incident: Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, Starbuck Police Department, Glenwood Police Department, Benson Police K9 Department, and MN State Patrol.

We appreciate the teamwork and professionalism displayed by all agencies involved, which resulted in a safe resolution to the incident.

We are receiving reports from residents about scam phone calls related to recent weather damage. We know it is frustrating especially when they continue to call you. Unfortunately there is no way to completely stop scammers! If you receive a suspicious phone call, hang up and block the number. Stay alert and be safe!

These adorable kiddos “got caught” at Lori Larson’s daycare in Lowry. They all put their helmets on and received stickers and a certificate for a free small cone at Dairy Queen. 🍦🚲🛴

The “I got caught” certificates is a fun reward given by law enforcement agencies to children who are caught wearing a safety helmet while riding a bicycle, scooter, or rollerblades.

“I got caught” is brought to you by: AAA, Dairy Queen, MN Chiefs of Police, MN Sheriff’s Association, and MN Towards Zero Deaths.

The Pope County Sheriff’s Office is proud to operate a drone program consisting of multiple drones and six certified pilots. Our drone team assists with search and rescue operations, supports local fire departments, conducts building searches for routine patrol responses and West Central SWAT, and helps assess storm damage and other hazards throughout the county.

This month, our drone pilots conducted their monthly training at First Baptist Church in the city of Glenwood. During the training, pilots utilized our interior drones to simulate searching for specific objects throughout the building, helping sharpen their skills that can be critical during real-world incidents.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to First Baptist Church for graciously hosting this month’s training and supporting our continued efforts to serve and protect our community.
