School’s out for summer! ☀️🌭🚒

Today, we had the opportunity to grill hot dogs for the students and staff at Minnewaska Elementary as they celebrated the last day of school.

We loved being able to spend part of the day with so many smiling faces and help kick off summer break the right way. Wishing all the students, teachers, and staff a safe, fun, and well-deserved summer!

Last week’s drill at the Glenwood Fire Department put a different spin on auto extrication training.

This scenario simulated a vehicle crashing into a building, creating limited access to the patient compartment and adding another layer of complexity to the incident. Before extrication could even begin, crews had to assess and stabilize the structure to ensure a safe working environment for both firefighters and patients.

The training gave our newer firefighters the opportunity to work through basic stabilization and extrication techniques, while also allowing more experienced members to practice advanced skills in a more traditional extrication setup. These types of realistic scenarios help prepare our team for the challenges we may face when real calls come in.

Training nights like this are a reminder that no two calls are ever the same — and why continuing to train together is so important.

Interested in serving your community and being part of a great team? We’re always looking for dedicated individuals to join our department. Apply at https://www.glenwoodfiremn.org/now-hiring

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage and selflessness gave us the freedoms we often take for granted and the opportunity to serve our own community each day.

As we spend time with family and friends this weekend, may we also take a moment to reflect on those who never made it home.

From all of us at Glenwood Fire Department — we remember, we honor, and we are forever grateful.

This EMS Week, we want to recognize the paramedics and EMTs who answer the call at every hour of the day — bringing skill, compassion, and calm to some of life’s hardest moments.

We especially want to thank the incredible team at Glacial Ridge Ambulance for everything they do for our community. Day and night, they show up when people need them most.

Whether it’s on the scene of an accident, during a medical emergency, or simply helping someone through a difficult moment, EMS providers make a difference far beyond the lights and sirens.

Thank you to all EMS professionals for your dedication, teamwork, and commitment to serving others. We’re proud to stand beside you. 🚑❤️🚒

Today, on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to honor the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in service to others.

Behind every badge is a person willing to step into difficult moments so others can make it home safely. Today, we remember the sacrifice that commitment can carry, and we honor those who never got the chance to come home.

We continue to hold close the memory of Deputy Josh Owen — a true public servant whose courage, selflessness, and impact on this community will never be forgotten.

From all of us at the Glenwood Fire Department, we stand with our law enforcement partners today and every day. Thank you to all peace officers, past and present, for your service, sacrifice, and dedication to the communities you protect. 💙

What if no one answers the call?

Every time the pager goes off, someone in our community is in need. It could be a fire. It could be a crash. And every time, someone from Glenwood Fire drops what they’re doing and responds.

But what happens if that changes?
What happens if no one is left to answer the call?

Volunteer fire departments like ours are powered by everyday people—your neighbors, coworkers, and friends—who step up when it matters most. But fewer people are answering the call, and the need is growing.

We’re not trying to be dramatic—we’re being honest. The future of local emergency response depends on people stepping forward.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering, now is the time. Your community is calling. Will you answer?

Happy Mother’s Day from the Glenwood Fire Department ❤️🚒

Today, we celebrate all the incredible moms in our community — the ones who love endlessly, support selflessly, and are always there when they’re needed most.

We also want to recognize the mothers who helped shape the people serving this community today. The wives and mothers at home supporting the unpredictable schedule that comes with the fire service. The grandmas, stepmoms, and mother figures who continue to encourage and care for others every single day.

The fire service is built on community, family, and sacrifice — and so much of that starts with the example set by moms.

Thank you for everything you do, today and every day. 🚒❤️
