June 13, 5:30 p.m. The 20-acre Spring Creek Fire near Thomasville is 70 percent contained. The fire showed little activity and did not grow again today.

The White River National Forest is delaying the seasonal opening of several roads for two days until Tuesday June 16 for firefighter and public safety. The Eagle-Thomasville Road (NFSR 400) will remain closed from the gate south of Sylvan Lake to the Frying Pan Road. Burnt Mountain (NFSR 506) will open Tuesday if crews can clear the fallen trees from winter. The Brush-Gypsum Road (NFSR 414) and Hat Creek Road (NFSR 416) will also open Tuesday.

The closure extensions are necessary for firefighter and public safety because of fire traffic related to the Spring Creek Fire.

June 13, 11 a.m. Firefighters on the 20-acre Spring Creek Fire near Thomasville continue to strengthen the containment lines. The fire is currently 40 percent contained. With significant firefighter activity still in the area, the White River National Forest is delaying the annual seasonal opening of the Eagle-Thomasville Road (NFSR 400) and Burnt Mountain Road (NFSR 506) for an additional two days, until Tuesday June 16.

This does not impact access to Sylvan Lake from the Eagle. The Burnt Mountain Road opening may be delayed additional days depending on how many downed trees from the winter the road and trail crew encounters.

No evacuations orders remain in place for the Spring Creek Fire. Visit www.ECEmergency.org for the latest evacuation information.

June 11, 8 p.m. Strong work from the firefighters on the Spring Creek Fire last night and today kept the Spring Creek Fire near Thomasville from growing and brought the fire to 20 percent containment. Firefighters have been around the entire perimeter, mitigating snags, building handline and establishing hose lays. Tomorrow the approximately 70 firefighters on the fire will continue strengthening containment lines and mopping up the perimeter. A heavy helicopter remains assigned to the fire and available to support crews on the ground.

Accurate aerial mapping puts the fire perimeter at 20.7 acres. The map shows a spot fire in the northeast corner that firefighters caught and secured last night. The purple dot is a landing spot for a helicopter, the black perimeter is containment, the H-line is handline.

The Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit, Roaring Fork Fire Rescue, and Aspen Fire are working together, coordinating closely with Eagle and Pitkin counties.

An evacuation remains in place, visit www.ECEmergency.org for current evacuation information.

June 10, 6 p.m. Crews on the Spring Creek Fire near Thomasville have constructed sawline and hoseline around the northeast flank of the fire, and there was no additional growth to the south. The fire grew to the northwest and is now estimated to be 20 acres. Strong afternoon winds on the Spring Creek Fire created challenges for firefighters, limiting the support of the heavy helicopter and forcing firefighters to disengage on the east side because of the risk of falling snags.

Evacuations are still in place, visit www.ECEmergency.org

June 10, noon. About 95 firefighters are on-scene at the Spring Creek Fire. Crews are actively engaged in the construction of handlines, assisted by a heavy helicopter. They are needing to mitigate the large number of snags (hazardous dead trees) in the area for safety, which adds time to the effort. Fire activity continues to be minimal but is expected to pick up as winds and temperature increase. The fire is estimated at 15 acres with no containment.

Evacuations are in place, more information at www.ECEmergency.org.
