🚒 4-Alarm Fire – Big Valley Nursery, Glen Head 🚒

Yesterday morning at approximately 8:00 a.m., Glenwood Fire Company, along with numerous mutual aid departments, responded to a rapidly escalating fire at Big Valley Nursery in Glen Head.

Due to the size and intensity of the fire, the incident was quickly upgraded to a 4-alarm response, ultimately bringing together over 150 firefighters from 19 departments. We extend our sincere thanks to our mutual aid partners for their outstanding support:

Sea Cliff, Glen Cove, Locust Valley, Roslyn Rescue, Roslyn Highlands, East Norwich, Syosset, Oyster Bay, Port Washington, Bethpage, Manhasset-Lakeville, Westbury, Carle Place, Plainview, Farmingdale, Great Neck Vigilant, Albertson, Mineola, and Williston Park.

Through coordinated efforts and teamwork, the fire was brought under control in approximately two hours, with crews remaining on scene until about 2:00 p.m. to ensure full extinguishment and overhaul operations.

Three firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

This incident highlights the strength of the mutual aid system and the dedication of all responding personnel. We are proud to stand alongside our neighboring departments in protecting our communities.

🙏 Thank you to all who responded and supported this operation.

12/29/2024 - It was a busy day for the Glenwood Volunteers who answered many alarms, 7 EMS Calls, 2 Automatic Fire Alarms and a reported deck fire.
At 16:41 Glenwood was alerted for a deck fireim the rear of a private residence. Upon arrival, 2nd Ass’t Chief Sheridan observed a primary power line down and burning on the deck of a residence. Command was established and PSEG was requested for an immediate response. A handline was stretched. Crews cut the deck to prevent fire travel. The power was removed from the line and fire was extinguished.
Glenwood was assisted by units from the Sea Cliff Fire Department. Operations were under the command of Chief Don Sinski.
