Glenwood City Ambulance Service

Glenwood City Ambulance Service Glenwood City Ambulance Service was originally started in 1972. The first ambulance cost $10,000 and was purchased with the help of a $5,000 grant.

It was a converted 5-seat window van and was housed in the fire hall which is now the present day Nextgen Communications building on Main Street. In October 1999, a new Fire/EMS station was constructed at its current location on Misty Lane across from the high school. Glenwood City EMS serves approximately 120 square miles including the City of Glenwood City, Town of Glenwood, Village of Downing a

nd portions of the Towns of Springfield, Emerald and Forest. This accounts for a response area that includes roughly 3,527 citizens.

Traffic Safety Reminder – Temporary Signals in Construction Zone

As road construction continues in town, temporary traffic lights have been installed near the work zone. Please remember:

The temporary traffic lights DO NOT replace the nearby four-way stop intersection.

Drivers must still come to a complete stop at all posted stop signs, even if the temporary construction signal is green.

The close proximity of the two traffic control devices may cause confusion, so we are asking everyone to slow down, stay alert, and pay close attention to all signs and signals in the area.

Please help keep our community, construction workers, and other motorists safe by driving cautiously through the work zone.

As we end EMS Week, we would like to thank everyone for their support. We had a fun-filled week starting out with hosting a supper for our crew. A huge thank you to Boondocks 2.0 for serving us a great supper and to Glen Hills Group - Thrivent for their generous donation that allowed us to do this for our members. Also, we appreciate the School District of Glenwood City for letting us come in two different days to celebrate with the kids. We all had a great time!

This week we honor our crew members as we celebrate EMS Week. We are thankful for their selfless dedication to our community and the surrounding townships we serve. They provide 24/7 coverage, 365 days a year. They often overlook their own busy schedules and plans for the holidays to make sure the people we serve have emergency services available in their time of need. Please join us in reaching out and thanking them as we enter another busy week. Last night, Boondocks 2.0 served our crew a great meal, today we are going to school to serve our elementary kids lunch and Thursday, we will return to present the winners of our coloring contest trophies!

EMS Week is almost here! As we celebrate our crew and their dedication to our service, we have a couple events planned at school. First, we will help serve lunch to the elementary students Monday, May 18th and spend some time chatting with them about what we do. Secondly, we are having a coloring contest for students K-5. Watch for the sheets to come home if they haven't already. Please send them back to your child's teacher no later than Tuesday, May 19th as we will pick them up from the elementary office that day. Thursday, May 21st, we will return to present trophies to the winners. Good luck to all and thank you to the School District of Glenwood City for allowing us to come in and celebrate our week with the kids!

Have you every thought about helping your community with their emergency responses? Small, rural towns such as ours are limited when it comes to staffing for 911 responses. If you have ever wondered about being an EMT or a driver with us, reach out and we can chat! EMT classes start in August and driver training is done in house. Email or call with any questions you may have. Schedules are flexible! [email protected] 651-587-6148
