Schenectady County Legislature’s Summer Break continues to bring free and affordable family fun to Schenectady County residents. District 3 Legislator Peter Frisoni helped young anglers bait their hooks, while conservation experts from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the Schenectady County Soil & Water Conservation District teamed up to teach first-time anglers everything they need to know about fishing. Fishery biologists were also on hand to talk about the different types of fish that call Collins Lake home.

It's easy to set a bag down with the intention of picking it up on your way back, but it's just as easy to forget. An empty peanut butter jar makes a great odor-resistant container for used waste bags (or small bits of trail trash). 🐾

Why pack it out? Dog waste isn't the same as wildlife waste. Wild animals return native nutrients to the ecosystems they call home. Dogs eat pet food and when their waste is left behind, it introduces foreign nutrients that seep into the soil and water, disrupting the natural balance of the ecosystem. It can also introduce harmful bacteria and parasites.

Leave No Trace is all about our cumulative impact. Every bag packed out helps protect the forests, streams, wildlife and trails we all enjoy.
